My apologies to Cruces, who I critisized for claiming he saw a Scrambler 500 2X4. They are being delivered to dealers now, some, like Desert Motorsports in Scottsdale AZ., where Cruces saw one, have one or two in stock.

I guess I need to get out from behind the parts counter more often and shoot the breeze with the sales staff. We have 4 due in at the end fo the month.

It is being released as a late '00 model with MSRP around $5499. Basically all Polaris did was removed the 4X4 system and remarked the ATV. CVT, struts, and extra weight all included.

I did'nt see the exact numbers, but yes, it's obviously going to be lighter. It will just be a 2X4 version of the 500, like the 400's are. Same chassis, motor, suspension, everything, just without the 4WD.

I have a Sport 400. I need to ask, I don't understand something. Why is ther so much hipe about the 500 HO Scrambler? Forgive me I'm NOT trying to start anything, and please correct me if I am wrong. From what I gathered for everything I've read is that the 500 was made into the 500 H.O. so thet it could keep up with the 400L. Now both being relitivly equal, the 400L can be "hoped up" alot, for little money. The 500 H.O. is already near its peak, and there is little to do to improve it. So on that basis, why woul anyone want the 500 H.O.? Ok, I know cleaner and easyer. But is that enough? Clear me up on this.

Heres my 2 cents: I think that people who know little about motors would go for the 500 thinking that it would be stonger and faster. I almost did! I hear it has more low end torque though... We learn a lot on these forums...

I'm disapointed!!!

Serious question; Has anyone had their 400L apart and know what the different parts weigh?? If it were an RCR modded 400L less the entire chassis what kind of #'s am I looking at? (engine & ect., tranny, plastic, seat and tank)If I could get myself and two other guys together with some real numbers, I we might be able to put together a Superlight to show Polaris Industries. Aircraft alloy frame sound good??

Hopefully though, companies will start getting serious about making mods for the 500. Stock vs. Stock I like the 500 motor alot better (which is why I bought it) and is actually faster than the 400. It feels much torquier and better lowend and midrange. and alittle better top end too. Ofcource the only scrambler 400 i rode was a 96 so it might not have been running as good as a new one.
I've heard the head has alot of room for potential but it is complicated so no body has gotten around to making any mods for the public. I did talk to someone who owned a small race shop who added EFI to his 500, and he ported it, made his own pipe and alot of other stuff, He says he races in local hare scrambles and won the last 3 out of 4 and the last was open (meaning he raced against everything, including dirt bikes) So i think that the 500 has potential, but no body has gotten serious about offering mods. Thats my 2 cents anyway.
