Default Polaris Rod knock? Worried about Predator.

Back in 2000 we bought an SP335. After owning it for a few months I kept hearing what sounded like a slight rod knock. When I called the dealership I put the phone next to the machine and explained what I heard and they said it was normal.

Fast forward to the last two months. I picked up my Predator Dec 19th. I did the 1-hour break-in and changed the oil. Friday I was able to finally take it out and play for 2 hours riding trails with my brother who was on our SP335. Sunday I took it out again and played with my wife around the yard and was putting mainly in 1st at 10 - 15 mph with a few blasts down the side of our land. I was noticing some noises that did not sound good and I thought I saw my wife wince as I drove by. I'm hoping those noises where mainly the chain.

Now the motor itself has made rod knock sounds since I first started it and was hoping it would quiet down like the SP335 but it still sounds loud.

Here is my question, is this noise a normal Polaris engine sound? Does this noise quieter or go away in time? Does anyone else have this knock or is it just me?

I’m a bit worried about the Predator and hope I didn’t get a lemon! Please let me know your thoughts!

Mine make's a simular noise to what you are explaining, i think its the valve train, not a rod. If it was the rod it would have blew out by now. All i have heard make the same noise.

The chain roller makes some clunky noise on the Predator, I'd adjust the chain and see if the sound is gone.

My engine is noisey also. i believe it is the larger displacement duel overhead cammed normal sound. Have you ever listened to a ninja streetbike? they are very noisey, not that its bad i think its just comes with the engine design.

Thank you all very much for your replies, they have helped me relax a bit more. I rarely get the time to ride my Predator so I do not get to hear it running much at all. The other thing is with me being new to the sport quad market I'm not used to the noises they make over our SP335.

I do think most the noise while moving is the chain so I hope they redesign something to quiet it down. Then again I don't here it when I'm cruising at a higher speed.Ok quick fix is to drive it faster right?!?

Thanks again and have a great day!
