Paddles for Predator???
#1
Hi everyone,
First let me say that I live in SC. I will go to Little Sahara during Snake Hunt Weekend this year( hope to see you there)but other than that I plan on running some Mud Drag runs. I had Sand Sharks on EX but it needed more horses. I am thinking of going with straight paddles this time. Which do you think 9 or 10 inch rim and how many paddles? I am looking to spend @$150. Thanks in advance and let me know if you are going to be in OK during snakehunt!

Perfect! Got 2 guys with the 2 different STU paddles on one thread! I have been trying to choose between these two. My Pred is my first quad and so I don't have any clue as to the handling characteristics of different paddles. Here are my worries: 1. Will I be able to climb and launch as well with the SS II V-type paddles? 2. Would I really notice any difference between V-s and straights? 3. The padla brats look perfect except the 9-paddles instead of just 8 worries me. I have 13/37 gearing and like it with my knobbies, am I gonna have to go 38 or 39 just to get by with the 9-paddle straights? Vilnrk can you start in 2nd gear ok with your setup? (You have 13/39, right?) Thanks guys!

I rode a predator at glamis over mlk weekend with the pure polaris(WB) pipe on it and it had 9 paddle haulers. It was hooked up great especially draging at the hill. The v-shaped paddles slide better than the streight ones and are better at duning. the streight paddles hook up a little better than the v and are better for drag racing. Hope this helps.

i ride mostly on the river where the sand is always wet and heavy. i have no problem launching in 2nd, the problem is when i shift it to 3rd.....the front always seem to go straight up!! no really, the 13-39 gearing is great, you get killer bottom end and hole shot power. you will notice that the top speed is not as it was but i hardly ever find myself trying to go 70mph.
i do believe in the loose powder sand the 13-37 will work...i think
i do know this, with 13-37 you cant get it to lanch, it just boggs really bad. 13-39 is the ticket! just like the old 250R's had
if you go with the padla brats put them on 10" WIDE wheels. they have a lot flatter profile and float better on the sand. i had the ones that are on my predator now on my raptor which has a different bolt pattern so i had to mount them on my stock rims to use them on the predator...they are only 8" wide rims. i need to drill another bolt pattern in my 10" rims so i can use them on the predator.
SSII are probally going to be heavier than the padla brats. padla brats are 21x12x10or8. believe me they do look really good on a 10" wide rim.
look at my photo gallery you will see my tires are comp-cut for light weight. they are very light but the stock predator wheel is VERY heavy.
BTW the padla brat tires are not near as aggressive as the hauler paddles, so it works fine....
i have ran SSII a long time ago, they are great tires untill the V starts to wear down ....then they they start to loose traction.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like it isn't going to make a whole lot of difference, especially with my inexperience. Are the padla brats more expensive than the skates, or are they about the same? That will help my decision out some I think. Thanks!
