Default Predator(Whats Bad???)

Come on peeps. There has got to be something else that you can complain about. Tires, the seat, and no reverse can not be the only things.

If that is all, than the Predator is on it's way to being a reliable Warrior. (In the stock form)

I have not rode a Perdator yet, but you don't know how much I want too. Maybe next year I will get one. No reverse kinda bothers me. The next bike at this house will be a new z400 for the little woman.

The "no reverse" issue might be a problem for some, but I havn't worried about that. I ride in the snow and on the river near me, studded my tires for the river, but we finally got some snow so I hook up well with the stock tires where the sleds packed down the snow nice on the river. I needed to adjust the bars to fit me better, and have adjusted the shocks, but I guess you could call that "rider preference" adjustments. I have had no problems, and she runs like a top.

Default Predator(Whats Bad???)

I just bought a predator this past week. I broke it in and then took it on a very technical 20 mile woods ride. narrow trails, hills, rocks, mud, tight turns, etc... I did not experience anything bad with the predator and i did not have to refuel at any point. I have been riding a modified '86 250R until now and I thought it was the best thing out there and it still would be had the Predator not come along. It took everything we could throw at it this weekend and it came out unharmed. I don't know about the snow riding. we don't get a lot of that in western washington state. My only complaint about the Predator is the bottom end on it does not have the "umph" that is present in the mid and top range. we intend to fix that by running a K&N cone filter directly of the carb (with a 2 inch boot between) I think the airbox restriction is killing the bottom end. There is a guy in Oregon that makes the conversion kit. anyway, other than that i can't find one thing i don't like about it. I plan to race in 2 series this summer. I am anxious to see how she holds up to the 4-stroke competetion.

On a side note, several guys that dune ride have made mention that a stock z400 just will not cut it in the dunes unless you weight 120lbs. They say it just doesn't have the power out there. Just food for thought for anyone reading this who is looking for a new ATV.

Hey Buzz,

What is this conversion kit you are talking about? I bought the filters, but haven't installed them yet. What else would be necessary?

Go to this link:
http://forums.atvconnection.com/mess...did/324817.cfm

in the initial post there is a link to images. I believe its a camera logo under the user name on the left. click on that and you can see pictures of the conversion. The post also tells where to get the conversion.

I hear the front end stays down real good. Does this hold true for hillclimbing? Can I sit back for traction while not having to worry about my front end coming up?

I heard they can stall out in a creek crossing due to water getting into the carb vents. Re-routing the vent hoses up to the top frame tubes supposedly cures it. It is only an occasional occurance.

I've climbed some pretty big hills down in Tennessee. No problem keeping the front end down at all. I did change the gearing to a 13 tooth in the front. I don't know how that will affect the climbing. I'm going to be down riding Friday. I'll post when I get back on the ride.

Thats good to know, but why are most people changing the gearing., is it geared to high or something?
