Default Predator 160 Jet

Just got my Pred, put the Pure Polaris White Bros slip on on the bike. I will put a K&N filter on when it gets here tomorrow. Most everyone says I should run about a 160 main jet in the carb with the slip on and K&N. I put the 160 jet it in and there's just a hint of black smoke when gassed. However, it was cold and did not have time to warm it up and run through the neighborhood (about midnight).

I also lowered the needle clip one notch (it was on the third notch from the factory, now it's on the fourth) :-)

I think the 160 will be about right if it's warmed up and the K&N is in place.

Anyone else have experience dialing in the jet size and needle?

I'm running at about sea level (Yuma dunes Glamis, Buttercup, Gordons Well, etc....) Can't wait to go this weekend!!!! I already ran the bike about an hour in the riverbed to start the break-in. I'll take it easy starting out at the dunes too.... Bye Bye old 400EX friend.... :-(

Thanks!!!

Not to be rude, if you do a search, there are some pretty interesting posts. You did good getting the 160. Actually there's a lot of people in your area too.

Glad to hear there is another soon to be proud owner of a predator. I would highly recommend venting the airbox if you're going to a 160 main. It seems I've got great power with 12 1" UNI vents, K&N filter and 160 main w/ WB silencer. I'm still on the 3rd clip of the needle. I'll be trying the 4th clip soon.

Enjoy!

I spent all day yesterday at the superbike shop in evansville, Indiana. Gary is under contract with Polaris to develop the predator motor. He has a new kit available now. cost is $99.00. It comes with everything you need to set up your predator carb. It modifies the airbox, all the jets, needle, and carb modifacations your going to need to make. It produced 6 more hp and 8lbs more tq. in the mid range, it also will rev from 2000 to 9000 a full 2 seconds quicker with the kit. I personally watched the him dyno a stock bike before and after mods yesterday. My predator is there now to get the 580 kit installed, available march the 7th. He has been working on this motor from the beginning, he has the most advanced knowledge of what works of anybody out there.
