Just bought a old, bad trail boss.. HELP!
Hi all
have lockad around for the info on this problem for quite some time now on this forum so now i have to post a question.. I have just bought a polaris trail boss -90 of some kind, its a 4*4 with a aircooled motor but the papers says that its a 350, is there any 350 thats not liquid cooled?
Its been beaten pretty bad so i have to buy some replacement stuff to it. Where can i buy cheap aftermarket front shocks, and what brands are available? I'll bet there got to be some small car shock or someting that fits...
When i picked it up the front drive shafts where in plastic bags and both cv joints where damaged... i hate to buy new stuff for the old scoot for 600$ (yes they are that expensive here in Sweden). I have surfed around and found http://www.shafts.com/ that seems to sell super cheap cv joints, but what really do i get when i order from them? have anyone tried them? As long as i get the inner race the ***** and the cage i think i can rebuild it myself.. Somewhere ive heard that the outer cv joint is the same as som small japanese car.. anybody know anything moore? i know for a fact that polaris didnt build this by there self, so they have to have bought it from someone..
Please help me

I doubt you'll find a car strut that will work. I used to work in an automotive store and tried matching some up with no success. I even asked a Monroe Rep while I had to work with him for a day. He didn't have a clue if they made anything that could be substituted for the stock units. I think Hot Seat has a set for $100. They are called Kimplex or something like that.

I put a set of Kimpex from Hot Seat on mnie and with shipping they were $120.Like I have said before go to Ebay and do a search on "polaris atv" and "polaris parts" if you see some one selling parts that are close to what you are loking for mail the seller a note asking if he has what you are looking for.I have found lots of parts this way.

I think some of the very earliest 350s were air cooled, but just a few.
Check out the 'classified' section of ATV forums, or e-bay for the struts. I know there are quite a few people who have put on aftermarket struts, and have perfectly servicable ones for sale. I haven't ever found a strut cartrige from a car that would interchange with the Polaris one.
As for the CV joints, try an axle or transmission shop that does CV rebuilds. As long as the parts are all there, they can usually do a rebuild fairly cheap. If they can salvage the old 'cage' I have seen rebuilds under $75, which included repacking with grease, and new boots.
Good luck, and as with everyone who makes their first post at the Connection: WELCOME!

Hi again
And thanks for the help.. I have lied to all of you. Got the papers today in the mail and the identity is
type: Polaris Trail boss 4x4
Modellcode: PC7004
Chassinumber: 1644918
Is this a 250? i pretty certein it is.. but as everybody seems to be more then happy helping me out i just ask again...
The problem with sending the cv joints to cv shop is that there is no such thing here in sweden..
I'm buing new tires to.. the original dimensions is 22x8 10 and 24x11 10, how big can i go? am just having the wheeler to haul some fire wood and ride some snomobiletracks in the winter.. but i thought that when i buy new ones i can buy cool ones.. If i undestand the tire dimensions right i have smaller tires upfront, i guess i must have that i consideration when i buy new bigger ones so the size ratio front/rear is the same or else the gearing would be wrong...?? or..?

There are a lot of places to get the CVs rebuilt in the states, but I don't know how they would do overseas shipping.
The place I have found that has the highest quality CV joints would be www.gorilla-axle.com and they are the only company I know of that will guarantee their CV joints for as long as you own the machine. No deductables, no pro-rated warranty, and no time limit. They also have no restrictions as to what size tires you use. I don't know, but they might be able to send you just the inner workings of the joint. You could also try www.rockymountainatv.com The last time I checked there, they had replacement CV joints, and boot kits. They are as good or better than the stock ones were, and are probably cheaper than Gorilla-axle. Again, no idea what international shipping is going to cost.
If you call either place with your model code, I am sure they can match you up.
Never tried shafts.com, so no idea on their level of quality.
