Scrambler electrical problems
#1
Just went riding all last night only to find out all the electrical stuff is acting strange on my quad. Well, the battery is dead and is not holding a charge. I guess that could be the problem to begin with. But I'm not sure if there could be something else. First I noticed my rear tail light/brake light isn't working at all. Then, the AWD light on the AWD button kept getting brighter as the RPMs increased and soon stopped working too. So I then tried to turn on my headlights, and they started flickering real bright flashes every couple of seconds, just like when a light bulb at home suddenly goes out it flashes real bright. Later on, when trying to use the 4WD, it wouldn't work until the RPMs increased pretty high. Then, the machine stalled suddenly a couple of times while in neutral, and constantly wanted to stall in reverse. Also, 4WD wouldn't work in reverse (yes I was using the reverse override button)and the rev limiter would kick in, but when I turned the 4WD off, it went in reverse just fine with the reverse overide button depressed. So could it just be the dead battery causing this? Bad alternator or fuse somewhere? Help me please. Thanks.

Doesn't sound good to me. It sounds like what would happen If you were to run with no battery at all. The magneto will still produce power while running, more revs= more power going to the battery. If there is not a battery there or no resistance in the path, the power will hit everything else in it's path. It will blow lights and anything else in it's path. Hopefully not the CDI or coil or anything like that, but maybe it just got the 20 amp circuit breaker in the tail light assy? But if you had the battery in place and well connected, could just be the circuit breaker, but by your description It doesn't sound like It. I am by far no whiz on these things, just my guess, maybe someone who knows alot more than I do can help you. Just my thoughts, good luck!

Change out your bad battery first. It can make things act up if it's not within specs. Also, do you regularily drain your starter, and recoil/stator plugs? You can connect an ammeter between the negative battery terminal (after you install a freshly charged new battery) and the negative wire. Around 1500 rpm, the ammeter should read positive (charging). You can also touch the leads of a voltmeter across the terminals and gradually increase the rpm's...depending on stator/machine condition you should be above 12.5 volts.

About anywhere they are the same price and most places have a one year warranty with them. I got my first battery at Polaris dealership and my last one at Kmart. Both same price one year warranty, Wal-Mart also has the battery. If I remember correct It is a 14AA2 battery.
