Has anyone tried the trick where you get the Polaris to use the front wheels for braking also???

Hey Super have you got to try it yet man this is nothing short of amazing, works even better if you experiment with the air pressure in the tires, was out riding yesterday and dropped the pressure down to 3 lbs in the front P tires and down to 4 lbs in the rear tires. I found out it really helps the traction out with these tires lets more tread get a grip because of the round shape of the tires when they have 5 lbs in them. These tires are great in mud cause of the design of the tread they don't have a real good bite but channel the mud really good. Letting the air out lets the side lugs get some traction to. The first time I was out riding I was used to the 4 wheel ebs of the AC 500 auto I own as I went down a really steep hill in 2 wheel ebs on the Sportsman it wasn't a pretty site the rear end started breaking traction with no help from the front wheels...I wasn't used to giving a four wheeler gas when going down hills the AC actually holds back good especially with all 4 wheel ebs. Well for any of you guys reading this who is not used to giving a bike gas you really need to try the process of getting the Polaris into 4 wheel ebs, it might save you a tragedy...I alway see post by Tim1 saying that EBS is a waste and maybe where Tim hasn't never used it or maybe he has, maybe he has gotten the technique down for going down hills but I really couldn't imagine going down some of the stuff like the skinny almost straight up and down paths without EBS...700 pounds is a lot of momentum going down hill...oh well I guess it is whatever you get used to...I would like to hear from some more of you guys out there that is trying this and how well it is working for you.

To answer your question: No there will be no harm to the EBS system from this operation. Locking the front hubs (in the way this procedure outlines) will do no harm to the drivetrain components or the EBS components.

I just purchased a 2000 sp 500 ,My only concern was coming down steep slick hills,The first time I had it out I went sliding down the first muddy hill I found.I was pretty let down,untill I found this info,I just went out and tried it and it worked great.But when I went out I picked up a nail In my rear tire can it be patched or should I plug it

Go to Walmart or Kmart and get you 4 tubes of the stuff that is similar to slime, automatically seals any cut up to 1/4 inch and maybe more using plugs sometimes the plugs make a bigger hole in your tire than the original tear or puncture. I am using the stuff from Kmart and it seems to work great it is $5.00 a tire or bottle. The reason I bought is I had a leak in the front tire from a small puncture and it sealed it right up...good luck...

I tried it and it works great! It is very hard to steer though. It's not something you need often but works beautifully when you need it. Are others having very hard steering too? Even with the hard steering it's worth it. Just wondering, with the tie-rod extenders some are using, would this help on the 4xEBS down hill situation? Has anybody tried it both ways?

Yes with the steering extenders it helps a lot what you are experienceing with the hard steering is what it would feel like if you were to put lockers onto a machine that was strictly 4x4 so now do you think that some machines need a 2x4 swith if you were going to use lockers....

Well I finally got a opportunity to try it! From the top of the "hill" named The WidowMaker. Where on the way down I found lots of broken parts from quads and MXers included a triple clamp and a shock mount.
To say this hill is a challenge is an understatement. It is loose rock and shale and VERY steep. The EBS 4x4 cheat worked perfectly. I crawled down that hill like child's play. It was still very scary as it was threatening to flip forward from the sheer steepness of the hill. My brother followed on his Warrior. Skidding to the bottom with the rear wheels locked from engine braking deparately clutching andf braking! SO FUN!
