Hey all,

I have a '98 Sportsman 500 and was wondering if it would be worth it to add the engine braking kit that Polaris offers. I have felt it would have been nice on steep inclines on many different occasions.

Also, has anyone added the kit to their SP themselves and how difficult is it to do? Are there any special tools required?

Thanks
Arlan

I have a SP500 with EBS. I love it and would never go back. I've ridden without EBS and with is much better. ATVing has a good post about how to get 4 wheel EBS for going down steep hills. It is usually only rear wheel EBS. Haven't tried it yet but plan too next time out.

If you are riding some super steep stuff go for it, it does have a learning curve though you have to give it gas going down a hill to equal out wheel spin. Unless you use the method I describe here in the post, if you are not riding steep stuff buy you some ebc pads and never look back.

I have EBS on my Magnum...and I love it. Without it, stopping the 600+lb machine would be a chore. The EBS works great on flat surfaces as well as hills. My Trail Boss is better without it because its lighter and it's more fun coastin down a hill. I would definately go for it if I were you. Good luck! Let us know how you make out!

I liked the EBS on my 99 Sportsman so much,I added it to my 00 Xplorer. Some say that it makes your quad slower.I dont really care.I enjoy being able to take the steep down hill descends without it free wheeling.====BILL

Bill,

I am sold on the ebs. You say you added it to your explorer. Did you do the installation yourself or did you have it done. If you did it yourself was it difficult and were any special tools required. I have been told by another forum member a clutch puller is necessary. A price tag of $399.00 is what I have seen, was that what you paid. Actually that seems cheap compared to other parts I have purched for my SP. I'm just trying to get some input before I start.

Thanks
Arlan

Sneeky, can you please tell me where I can find information on engaging EBS on all four wheels. Thanks in advance.
