Default scrambler pipe hot on right leg

I just got an HPD trailpipe from RCR. I was getting ready to install it and had the plastic guard off of the stock pipe. So I took it for a ride (stock pipe no heat shield) and it got hot on my leg - quickly- without the shield.

Will I have this problem with the HPD pipe (heat on his right leg without the heat sheild in place)?

I was going to have the pipe ceramic coated, but not if I'm going to wind up keeping the heat shield in place.

Rick was thinking a custom heat shield. Any thoughts?

I had to leave the heat shield on my wife's quad and put a thermal barrior on the pipe in order to keep the heat down. You might be able to put a thermal barrior coating on it and go without the heat shield. The thermal barrier coating made a huge difference.

With the trail pipe, you pretty much have to run some type of guard. I assume you re-jetted for the pipe.

I used aluminum tape to make a thick heat shield where the pipe touched the plastic and that worked pretty well. You can buy it at WallMart in the Auto department.
