New chain
#1
How do you know when you need a new chain, besides the obvious breaking? Should I replace the sprockets at the same time? What size is the stock chain and sprockets. Whats better, DID, RK, or Renthal? Should I get an o-ring chain or x-ring chain? Do I need to get a master link? Who has good sprockets? Is there a break in for the new chain? What do you use to lube your chain? I dont usually jump my machine and I dont see a lot of mud. I do lube my chain with Suzuki o-ring chain lube everytime I ride it. That stuff works good, but it is very messy and gets all over the swing arm. Thanks for your help.

If you have several missing 0-rings on your chain it's a good time to replace it.If the chain is taken care of it can last quiet a while. It is a good idea to replace the sprockets at the same time.I'm not sure on the 500 gearing,i believe it is 13/36.I always go with the primary drive sprockets from Rocky Mountain ATV.You could probably get away with the non o-ring chain, being you ara not jumping or mud ridin.Whichever way you go you will need a master link.I have always used the DID chain.I normally lube my chain with chain wax.A new chain will normally stretch the first couple of rides.Hope this helps.

Thanks, that helped. I always lube my chain and so far havent noticed any problems. I didnt know if they are suppose to be replaced after a certain time to prevent it from breaking and damaging my case. What is the difference between the x-ring and o-ring chain? Which one is better. Thanks

I just put a DID oring on my Scrambler. Sprockets are 13/36 as stated before. I got all the stuff from Dennis Kirk for about $100. They only sell 82 links or more so you will have to cut it down to 76. The master link comes with it.
The old chain lost lots of orings. This really doesn't matter except for the fact that it will wear out quick. Lots of adjustment was needed to keep it going. I replaced it when there was no more adjustment left.
