Polaris Scramblerm 500 4x4 ?
I'm looking at buy a polaris scrambler or a yamaha wolverine but it seems that yamaha has dicontinued the wolverine up here in canada. But I have a few concerns with the scrambler, It more or less had to due with the fact it has a belt driven automatic tranny. I was wondering if any one could tell me how these machines handle the wet stuff. Does the belt slip when crossing through or riding through deep water? I know the scrambler is faster than the wolverine and I really like the option of not having full time four wheel drive, I can deal with not having to shift but the fact that I've heard all kinds of people say once you get into the wet stuff the belt starts slipping and you have all kinds of problems really puts the damper on buying one.

As long as you take good care of your clutch cover and gaskets and keep the clutches clean you shouldn't have any problems. I have ridden in lots of water and have never had the belt to slip, I've had mine for 5 years, but like I said, maintenance is important. I have a friend who has a wolverine and he hates the fact that it is full time 4wd. He actually took apart and removed the 4wd, but after some problems he put it back on. What kind of answer did you think you would get in the Polaris forum?? LOL

I love the scrambler.
We recently slipped a bent after a fast paced puddle ride. It happened on a high speed 1 to 2 foot deep puddle. It splashed about 2 cups of water into the breather. I removed the cover, drained the water, cleaned everything. It works fine.
this is the only negative experience I have had.
I would recommend the scram to anyone!!

Look at my pics. The belt wasn't slipping at all in any of those. Plus, the 2003's have more improvements than ever to keep water from entering the PVT, and if water does get in, they now have a nice little drain plug.
Polaris has been making these for years! Do you think they would have been so successful with their sales if they were as bad as people say?
