sportsman jets
#4
Hello, I put a K&N Jet kit, filter, and HPD clutch kit in my 00 sportsman. Gained 5 mph, much better accleration, and more power in mid range. Cost about $150. Did it my self in about 4 hours. Let me know how it goes. (Just to let me know, with this set up, I was able to out perform a Remington Sportsman 01 HO.

carver,
you can pick up a little by rejetting..is it worth it, I say not really...
BUT if you modify the intake & remove restrictions, do a mod on the pipe, or aftermarket pipe, well then, yes, it is needed, and is worth it..
I have 2 street bikes, both of them have had airbox mods, K&N filters, (less restrictive) amd muffler mods, both have had jetting changes to them.. on the small one, I went from a 95 main to a 120...
on the large one I went from a 90 main to a 117.5 main..
both of them went up 1 size in pilots..
the prarie has had airbox mods, & free flowing filter, I went up 1 size on the mains without a muffler mod..
so jetting by itself really is not the cure all some think it is.. look at it this way..an engine is a air pump.. it takes air in through the airbox, mixes it with fuel, & it goes out through the exhaust.. if you change the airbox, you need to rejet to get it back in balance, same thing for the exhaust..
I did jetting changes with stock jets..I did'nt like the needle in the kits, it was cut on a strange taper, & with stock I knew what I had & how to modify it to go where I needed to get..
but what you pay for in a jet kit is the time it takes for someone to put it on a dyno & test it to get you close.. the parts are minimal..
be advised that dyno jets are rated by the diameter of the hole, a 120 is 1.2mm, mikuni, kehin is based on flow rates, and are not going to be the same size.. a 120 mikuni flows more than a 120 dynojet.. will they both work? yes..
hope this helps..
