Hello, I am basically new to this forum. I have posted a few messages but I have been reading everyone elses posts for the past few weeks and am suprised that there are not as many posts on the 335 as there are on the 500. I know the 500 is the king, and not as many people own a 335. But the posts I have read on the 335 are always saying how the 335 is underpowered and it weighs to much. I know from reading the posts in here that the 500 will do between 50-60 tops, according to everyone. The top speed on the 335 is between 40-47. I dont think that is much of a difference, I mean how many people do 50-60 down a trail (I know there are a few) the trails I have rode you would have a hard time missing trees at 40-47 let alone 50-60. Dont get me wrong I am not trying to put down any atv, all atvs are good in my opinion simply because they are atvs. And we still have the freedom to ride. So why look down on the 335. Its the same size body wise as the 500 with a few less horse power. Is this the only reason people dont like it as well as the 500 or is there something I am missing. I have had 3 people on mine went up some pretty steep hills and gained speed all the way to the top. Pretty good for an underpowered bike.

Hawkj045,
It's not that folks are down on the 335 it's just that 335 is almost the same weight as the 500. The body and chassis are the same, so the 500 makes a big difference to overall performance.
Just my 2 bits.

Hi Hawk,

I bought my SP500 in February, and my wife decided she wanted one too. When we went to the dealer we looked at the SP335, thinking that it would be easier for her to handle. The major differences that we saw were: (1) cheaper and smaller tires on the 335. (2) No EBS, which in our case is a bad thing. (3) Wanted more power, seemed to be a little underpowered, but that may be because she was used to the 500. Those are the reasons we chose the 500 over the 335, but I'm sure the 335 is a fine machine..........

Well Hawk have you ever rode the 500 I really don't think the top speed is the concern over choosing the 500 over the 335 I would say it is the torque even though I say the 335 does a good job on the trail climbing and riding I just don't think it would have the torque like the 500 with the 335 having the same weight...try the 500 out if you get a chance.

Why buy either? wait until late summer or early fall and buy a 700 twin. im sure it will cost more but it will be worth it. the torque to weight ratio will rival a john deere bye

I've got a 500, and haven't even ridden the 335. However, I went riding at this one place and met 2 guys, one on a 335, and the other on a 500. The one on the 335 said he wished he had gone ahead and got the 500.
Another twist on the situation is that the 335 has less ground clearance due to the smaller tires. That, along with less power just makes me want the 500. In either dirt wheels or atv 4wheel action magazine, a shootout between the prarie and the 335 yielded the prarie as the winner. Nothing has ever beat the sp500 in a shootout. I know I'm probably stepping on toes with this one, but I'll say one more thing and then I'll quit; buying the 335 over the 500 would be to me like buying a full-size 4x4 truck with a 4-cylinder engine in it. I would just rather have the V8.

I know a few guys who own the 335.They will tell you they like their quads ,but after taking a ride on the 500,they wished they would of gotten the extra CC engine, ground clearance, larger tires,EBS,and alot more torque from that 500cc engine. If you like the 335,than thats all that counts.Personally,I dont want a 4cyc engine in my Full Size P.U either.==BILL

I had the 335 and now have 500, the biggest difference I noticed was the closing speed when I'm chasing other ATV's on the trail. It's faster. The 335 doesn't go over 40 MPH. Atleast mine didn't. My 500 will only go 54 downhill.

Basically, its like getting a Mustang with a 6 cylinder or a Mustang GT. Both look good and have the same options, but the GT has more power and better tires. Thats the bottom line on it. The IRS sets the 335 off and that is its big selling point. The only downside to the 335 is that it is overpriced for its engine class. The IRS jacks the price up as well.
