ummm......the first snowmobile was a SKI-DOO. Why does it always seem that the POLARIS riders think Polaris was the first to do everything? For the sensible Polaris riders, you guys should be ashamed of these guys who think they know everything about everything. They're givin ya all a bad name.

J. Armand Bombardier, built the first snowmobile, and while it was not called a Ski-Doo, it was the first snowmobile. The best sleds? Just look at the race results for snow-x, ovals, or cross country. They are dominated by Arctic Cat, and Ski-Doo. Secondly, every one in these forums is guilty of bashing now and then, me included. I don't mind as long as the facts in the argument are right, but what really gets me going, is when people like A**ing enter into a conversation, or start one for that matter, with out one shred of knowledge about what they are talking about.

Bob4x4,

We are swinging a little off topic here. You indicated the first snowmobile was from Bombardier. Agree. You indicated it was not called a Ski-Doo. I disagree. On a tour of the Bombardier museum in Valcourt Quebec they indicated that Armand's name for the unit was to be Ski-Dog (as in dog sledding). There was an error at the printers. They called it a Ski-Doo. Bombardier decided to leave it that way. What were you thinking the name of the machine was?

96 COBRA no I wasn't replying because of that post I was posting because every time I get on a good topic on the Honda forum it gets ruined by someone bashing and stating misinformation. I usually don't post on this site unless it is to help someone out with a problem. I guess it just gets under my skin after while and wish people would just leave this my quad is better than yours with your freinds on the trail. I just felt I needed to blow off some steam here because I wasn't even posting because when I seen something negative everytime I was on a good subject I feel the need to be negative to so as the old saying goes if you can't say something nice then don't say anything at all. Usually ATVING is the culprate. He sure doesn't seem to know much about atv's. Atleast if you feel the need to state faults of other machines GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT! I also can see faults in Honda atvs and all atvs and will be the first to tell you if you can carry on a descent conversation. And by the way you guys impressed me with all your replies. I figured on getting some nasty ones so bravo. Soon I will post a topic on the changes or likes and dislikes of your atv. Hope you all reply. Thanks for your politness in this matter. Ride safe and have fun thats the bottom line.

Kevin,

You say Honda owners must be jealous, jealous of what? If I would have wanted a Polaris then I would have bought one, but I didn't. I am not defending this guy, beast 450.

This is almost a daily thing on one of the manufacturers forums, somebody purposely bashing other manufacturers. Surely you can see this guy is clueless, right?

I visit all the sites to check out what is going on & will continue to do so.

Our enemies are not the riders of different quads but the eco maniacs & government that are taking away our riding places.

Well Zwoman, maybe you can explain why polaris has offered an altitude compensating carburator (accs)that was supposed to compensate for changes in altitude from 0-14,000 feet. People trusted the accs and when they rode their sleds at 5000 feet or lower in elevation, the sleds started burning up.The sleds also didn't run right when subjected to elevation higher than 9000 feet. Polaris dealers started tearing into the accs and found out that all the accs was,was nothing more than the standard jetting for 6000-9000 feet in elevation.Polaris has been selling a fake compensator since 1995 and decided after screwing the consumer that they would take off the accs for the 2001 models. Ski-doo has the only working altitude compensator (HAC on the old models,DPM on the new models). Ski-doo introduced the first stock 151 inch track on a mountain sled for 2000. Ski-doo came right out and told the consumer that if they rode the sled in less than 2 feet of powder, track failure would occur and all track warranty would be void. so people used the sled the way it was supposed to be used and had minimal problems.Polaris,in a rush to stay competitive with Ski-doo,introduced a 151 inch long track and issued no warnings to the consumer about snow depths in conjunction with track failure. I was at a snowmachine show in jackson hole wy.and a Rep. for Polaris was on hand and had 5 guys complaining to him, about how they couldn't keep from burning up Hifaxs on their 151 inch polaris sleds. All the Rep. told them was that their cases were unique, all the while the Ski-doo rep. was telling potential buyers about the conditions needed to run the 151 inch track witout burning it up. If it wasn't for Ski-doo,Polaris would have never even introduced a twin motor in a mountain sled, and when they finally did come out with a Domestic twin it had reed problems. All the talk about Polaris being an innovator in the Atv segment is a joke to. Polaris entered the Atv industry because they were going bankrupt and had to find some way to stay afloat. Polaris introduced an auto tranny because they were already producing belt drive systems on their sleds. Full floorboards were copied from their sleds. They used 2 stroke motors, not because they were the best, but because Polaris already had a contract with Fuji Heavy Industries. Polaris had to Provide liquid cooling because of the heat variations that an atv would be subjected to.They found out with sleds that air cooled 2 strokes were a problem. Other than that Polaris is an industry leader.

You Know Beast.. I have been On these forums for almost 4 years, And let me tell you during that Time, it NEVER EVER Fails that someone from the HONDA forum comes down here and start a Ridiculous Post like this.. It usually goes like this..
" Oh Sure the Polaris is faster, but its reliability stinks... etc. etc..
So when youve been around a bit longer you learn to ignore idiotic posts from People who Obviously dont know any better than to bash., I have a Polaris, 2 Honda's, and 2 Yamahas, I have owned
Many, MANY different brands of bikes over the years, all the way down to an Indian 50 when i was 4 , some 25 years ago. I learn to ignore people who think a 2 stroke has valves or a 4 stroke doesnt.. Bashing Wil ALWAYS be here, be the better man and Ignore it, or your no better.

Deej, I was thinking of Ski-Dog, but couldn't remember for sure if that was correct. I didn't know the part about the printer, thanks for the history.

So "true" 4wd, the ability to shift between 2wd and 4wd, and independent rear suspension are not innovations? How about the Scrambler being the first sport/4wd hybrid?

Snowshark is right on in that we need to spend less energy bashing other machines and more energy defending the right to ride. Go to www.usaweekend.com and vote in the poll about banning ORVs in the national parks. Then read some of the garbage the tree huggers are writing about the ATV's and their riders. I am all for a little good natured ribbing of the different brands, but at the end of the day, who cares what machine you own, just that you ride and are willing to fight to keep that right.

PS Sledder is one bitter man, bitter!
