Default Predator repair update

Well I swapped out my bent Steering stem Friday night. Today I was able to install the new Throttle cable, Choke cable, Trailtech dash, Xbars, and the rest of the goodies.

I'm on hold at finishing up due to the fact that the ATV store sent home Motorcycle grips for my Predator. They looked sweet but only one grip is tight. I'll have to go back for another set tomorrow.

Problem so far is trying to figure out how I want to setup my Handle bars since I'm adding PowerMadd hand guards. If I put the Brake lever where I think it goes then the Hand guards will mount too low due to otherwise touching the parking brake assembly. I think if I turn the brake so the lever is almost parallel with the ground all will be well. The only problem is the master cylinder says it's low when I mount it that way.

Pudljumper did you have any close-up picks pics on your setup? I put my mounts going under the control like the instructions said. If I go over I can forget about using the parking brake. The other thing I don't like is how the light/starter switch blocks the lower bolt on the mount. Looks like I will have to measure the grip and figure out where I want everything and mount the Clutch and Hand guard mount first then the switch followed by the grip.

Any suggestions on installing the new handgrips? I haven't had to replace an ATV grip yet. I did get some Scotts Grip cement and was wondering if I use that or soap and water like I did on my bike as a kid. I would hate to get it 1/2 way on and be screwed since I do not have a compressor. Will the grip glue make it slip on easily at first?

The closest I have is what is on my profile. I know what you mean though. I ended up mounting the handguards a little low, but the peak still covers the knuckles and does a good job if you really look at it. On the left side, I got the clamp in position and mostly tight, and managed to slide it tight agains the starter/light box, I don't remember how I did it, but I did. I agree that the parking brake does get in the way, but going over really isn't an option, you almost have to go under. Oh, I remember how I did the left side, unplug the wires, install the bracket almost tight to the box, and then plug the wires back in, that way you can still get to the screw. If you set the handguards a little lower, it won't mess up your controls and it will still protect your full hand better than you think. Hope you like them as much as I do!

Thanks pudljumpr, I did look again at your pics and saw you too went under. I have found a sweet spot where everything looks good except then the site glass on the master cylinder says I need to add fluid. When I get the time I'll have to open it up and take a peek to see if I really do need fluid.

I can't wait till I get the new grips and can finally tighten everything down and finish installing the handguards! They look sweet and even match the red on the rest of the Predator!

As long as you keep plenty of fluid in the resevoir, I don't think it matters what the window says, just so the hole stays submerged in fluid when you pull the lever so you don't suck air. Do what ya gotta do!

Those bars are comfy. Oh and did I mention how shiny they are? I pushed it out of the garage yesterday and went back in to get a few things. When I turned around that Trail tech setup sure was gleaming! Woot Woot.

I was a bit upset when it ran great in the garage then died and wouldn't restart after I pushed it out. The battery was dying so I charged it and it fired right up. It does suck not having a backup way to start it.
