If you take care of your machine and do general maintenance, you can avoid alot of problems that others have. Make sure to keep your air filter clean, change hub fluid frequently, keep an eye on tranny fluid, keep the throttle adjusted correctly and don't let gas sit in it and gum up the carb, you should be ok. If you are not going to be riding for a while the best insurance against bad gas is to use Sta-Bil fuel stabilizer in your gas and make sure some gets in the carb, then your gas should be good for up to 16 months. Also keep zerks greased well and you will have a happy Polaris.
