trailblazer 96 rebuild NOW IT WONT START!!
#1
To anyone that is familiar with 2 strokes internally... I have the basic three elements in my trailblazer 96 after having it bored and rebuild. I have a good plug with spark, with fuel/oil combination and of course good compression. But i havent yet heard any pop or smelt any fuel burn. What could be the problem? I have the carb off now and am just shooting ether in the intake and still havent heard or felt anything. I'm not a two stroke professional, but the spark looks like it could be weak and there seems to be to many sparks for each stroke (but this is just a gut unprofession feel). But i would think i should hear some kind of pop or something even if that were so. I tried putting a good timing light on the plug wire to test where the mark was on the rotor flywheel, but it was too weak to make the timing light work. Could the coil be to weak?
I rebuilt this lovely machine after it exhibited this same none-starting condition a year ago thinking the compression was to low and it just needed new rings. Now after reboring and all it's shows the same problem. What is preventing the engine from not "popping" or showing any signs of ignition when all three of the components exist?
thanx

To do a timing check, follow these steps. Engine needs to be at 68 degrees F, remove the timing hole plug, put the atv in neutral, raise engine speed to 3500 rpm, point the timer at the timing marks, they should align with the center mark, if not adjust the stator plate. This is how my manual says to check it. Now, if you can't get it cranked how are you checking the timing at 3500 rpm? Do you have recoil and will it crank by using it? The engine could be flooding, especially with the ether, the carb float level could be too high, the needle and seat could be worn out. Try turning the fuel petcock off while holding the throttle wide open, try to crank it. Other thing that could cause it are... spark plug dirty, fouled, spark plug cap or wire damaged or worn out, spark plug cap not making good contact to the plug, CDI, ignition coil, ignition or kill switches shorted, dirty or damaged, damaged or shorted wires between... a)ignition switch and kill switch b)cdi box and ignition coil c)cdi box and kill switch d)ignition coil and plug e)cdi box and pulse coil or pulse/exciter coil. It could also be caused by contaminated or old fuel. In my opinion, you probably have some kind of fuel or switch problem since you are getting a spark. If your model has Electronic Throttle Control, that would be suspect also.

have u checked the gap on the plug? sometimes the plugs come with the wrong gap size. I have always checked gap on plugs in my cars, don't know if it would be same for a plug or not,

to those whom replied.....
I've set the gap.... .028.... so it's fine.. and it's a brand new spark plug...
but as to the speed.... again.. i want to say.. i have'nt even got it to "pop" or
ignite.... and it new fuel...
but would'nt i get a pop or something with the ether...
I don't even have the carb attached anymore and just shoot the ether in...
I do i check the performance of the coil or know that the spark is sufficent?
oh well
thanx....

There also might be the chace the safty control in the box might have gone bad. Mine went bad on my 95 TB. It will cause the spark to be bad or weak. you can disconnect it. It has 4 or five wires running to it you can disconnect it. The safty switch in the throttel might be bad to check to make sure it is seated . I hope this help or works just have to remeber it you disconnet it you don't have the reverse safty or throttel.

To tracy or x_scrambler3.....
do you mean safety control? and what box are you referring to?
BTW... how do you attach a picture to an email???
I've got a digital pic of the coil and the two 4 wire semi-conductors on the front underneath the
circuit board... i'd like to attach....
I have a feeling it's electrical so i'd REALLY like to know what your referring to....

it is under thefront nose piece. It is black slim box with about 4 or five wirs coming out on mine if looking from the front it is on the left side an it has a alumimum edge that is where it is bolted to the frame. I looked at mine an it has a green white yellow an black wires coming out of it there is two boxes they are both black. I have all disconnected right now the only one connected is the black wire. It might also be the regulator for the lights too one of the boxes. I would disconnet the green an white ones an see if it helps. You can e-mail me at x_scrambler3@yahoo.com with your pic or questions. Hope it helps you. If you have the pic on your computer you have to look for the attachment when doing e-mail or if you have yahoo messanger you can get me at mnflower2001 for the nicname it will be on can send it throught there to as a file.

i'm looking and analyzing your message right now....
i think this is the way to link the pic i'd like you to see....
i think we are talking about the same thing...
Front of bike circuit board and coil...

Have you even started with a compression test? One mistake that many people make is putting the rings on and cracking one or both . This is something that you really dont notice untill you get everything back together and then you dont have compression. There is a notch on both ring grooves that the rings have to line up in.If it is off even a little bit the ring can crack extreemly easy. I cant see why you would have an electrical problem after the rebuild if you did not have the problem prior. Start with the simplest first then go further. Even if you have a weak spark it should at least ignite with the ether but I would not use ether on a 2 stroke because there is no lubrication.Check your compression.

thanx to all
the compression is 115psi on the 7th stroke...
and i've got it running....
NOW... i see the problem is it floods to easy....
and it is HARD STARTING.... but once it get's starting it's not to bad...
just a little high rev...
Now.... I was just told today that polaris doesnt have a carborator rebuilding kit!!!
Everything is parted out!!!!...
Hmmmmmm I've taken everthing on this bike apart (the starter pinion when up
yesterday so i had to take that apart and i had to replace the garder(?) spring)
but the carbarator... I quess thats next..
cause when it was handed to me... all the cable attachments might have been changed
meanwhile i'm running at 40 to 1 on the oil so... maybe i'm just running
a little to oil for the startup?
any suggestions?
