Well Heapster, you should be a salesman, cause I'm sold. I called sprocket specialists and I should see my 13t by the weekend. If you want to hold out a little modquad, I can give you a good review if I get it by sat....hopefully that will save you some time, money, and frustrations!! Thanks Heapster, and everyone else for the great input!! Keep it coming!!

Pudljumpr,
Hey buddy.....remember the days when we replaced sprockets only because they were missing teeth? LOL. Good times. Maybe after all this re-gearing if 1st is too low you could trade it in for a reverse gear? Let me know if you get your parts in. Adam

Sales! Sales! Sales! mo money mo money mo money.
I've already produced the magic bean jetting kit, now my gearing kit, and don't forget my patented air pressure kit. The AirFarce kit already has the market cornered for sucking customers in, so I've moved on to new and exciting product lines.
If you run my special summer-time air in your tires (I can't disclose the specific air-pressure - modquads secret Polaris sources said they'll be disclosed in 2018 in an upcoming article) you'll get more top end guaranteed.
How does it work you ask?
With my patented hot-air injection unit, you'll get 2-3% bigger diameter and tire circumference! It will also automatically shrink in winter time to Optimum Pro-traction Units (O P U's) using proven thermodynamically principles. It's all top secret hush hush, but be sure to send me all your money to my recent 4 page ad in Dirt Wheels ragazine.
Its expensive, but well worth every penny in my pocketbook.
What was the question again?

I prefer to run the 39 rear and stock 14 front. I find alot more bottom end and very little loss on topend. I advise against running a smaller front sprocket. I would only make changes to the rear. Going with a small front sprocket puts extra wear and will lead to early breakdown IMO.

COLOPRED, changing the front sprocket makes the largest changes. You have to change the rear 3 teeth to equal 1 tooth change on the front. Anyone wanting major changes should start with the front sprocket first, then fine tune with the rear. Check out my listings of the sprockets and the final ratios up above. But I do see what you mean, other than the only real wear will be the chain guide, which is going to get messed up no matter what you do. Just keep your chain well lubed and your guide will be well lubed!

I'm running mine right now at 13/39. For the rough rocky trails in Tennessee, it seems to be the best combo. I find that it doesn't lug nearly as much. I also find I don't have to shift as much. It really made second and third gears very useable. I don't have the opportunity to use wide open 5th very often, so I don't feel like I'm missing anything.
Something else I noticed. The noise coming from the rear is normally from the chain on the roller. But, if it is a clicking sound, check the mounting bracket holding the caliper. The cam on mine was worn, so I had the dealer get me another. If you can grab the caliper and it moves around, yours is worn too. Just thinking maybe some have confused one sound with another.
One other bit to offer. I tend to ride in more muddy areas, not by choice, I could live without it. I put ITP Blackwaters on the rear. Not only do they look good, they give awesome traction. I can still slide the rear out on the corners on gravel, but they hook up real well in mud. I also went to a 23 inch Kenda Claw in the front. On the rocks, it really seems to help with the clearance. I don't feel like I've sacrificed any performance with these changes, and they've really helped.

Hey Heapster, did you put that clamp on filter on yet? I'm waiting for your review before I do mine.

Scott,
The clamp on K&N works fantastic, and really wakes up the quad and free flowing W/B exhaust.........
Its a totally new quad and power curve that will loft the front end skyward easily regardless of gearing.
BAH on any magic jet kit for $100 from some speed shop, and the Clamp-on is very well protected from water and dirt unless you're playing submarine captain.
What altitude are you at? Here in Seattle or Oregon Dunes at Sea level, with the clamp on filter and 8 disks in the W/B, numerous people have good luck with a 170 main, raise the needle a notch, and you can go with a bigger 50 pilot jet if you want.
The CV Carb slide works fine, it rips snorts new power, and pulls hard in the midrange without popping till you're at warp speed and bouncing off the rev limiter.
All for a $45 K&N, a $15 outwears. a $4 jet, I've got 3 more horsepower according to my calibrated Sphintometer, and I now have storage box for stuff in the air-box, and can go back to the totally stock air-snorkle in a couple minutes.
Hows that for a review?

Heap, you make me fall off chairs! Are you sure the "Hot Air" kit isn't from Taco Bell runs while you engineering types wait for your latest rocket to launch? hehe. You forgot to claim credit for your Ram hood ornament. Get one of those lighted ones from JC Whitney.....oooooh, I feel da power!
