Default 03 Scrambler Gearing Mod

Is there any way to change the gearing on the 03 Scramblers? Just wondering, cause isn't it shaft drive in the front, chain in the rear? Also, Someone posted on here about putting a Sportsman tranny in the Scrambler......Anyone know if this? That would be great if the Scrambler had a low range also, but I don't know if it would hold together with the speed of the Scrambler. Let me know please!

Sportsman tranny will NOT fit in a Scrambler. The Sportsman tranny is designed for use with rear IRS shaft drive. The Scrambler is chain drive rear, shaft to the front.

However, an Xplorer tranny might. It will be a little heavier, due to having low range, but as far as I know, it will fit. Best to do some heavy-duty measuring before you try just to be safe, though.

Changing the tranny has been done. A guy on ebay just sold one that he put a low range tranny in Here As far as changing the gearing, I think you can go one size different on the rear sprocket. Anything more than that and it will screw up the 4x4

It really comes down to how often you use your 4wd. I only put it in 4wd when I had to. I had 14/34 gearing, and the difference between the front didn't matter. I ran it that way with no problems at all.

Been running the low range tranny for since last summer. The low range tranny will bolt right in. The fun part is making the shifter work right. When I did mine I wanted it to look it came from the factory. But it was not that hard to do. The airbox has to changed also. The added weight of the tranny is less than 10 pounds.

I use to run a 12 tooth front and 38 rear before the tranny swap. I was running 25" tall tires with this gearing and no problems with the four wheel drive.

The tranny came out of 2001 Xplorer 400.

try looking into the heelclicker clutch kit, I have one on my '02 scrambler and it gets going right off idle. it acts like a granny gear. many polaris owners who have installed the kits hardly ever use low range anymore, that's how good they work and easy to install.
