Default 06 Sportsman 800 voltage reads (incorectly) 18.5V

06 Sportsman 800. Last owner replaced the stator and regulator. He ran it with the flashing needle and flashing battery symbol for a year and no other issues. When I put in diagnostic mode, the voltage reads a steady 18.5V. With the engine off, idling, or revved.

Putting a meter on the battery reads 12.4 with the engine off, 12.8 at idle, and 14.6 revved over 3K.

I'm guessing that that the issue is in the speedo, but cant find any info other than "replace it". Has anyone ever seen this and/or repaired it?

Thanks

Only thing I can think of is pulling the speedo harness connector for a few minutes and see if it resets and starts showing correctly. Voltage readings appear to show kinda ok with the meter. Battery voltage at rest should show a little more at 100 percent charge. As is about 3/4 charged. See if this site helps any. https://www.batterystuff.com/blog/ho...ry-is-bad.html

Battery was low, found the hand warmers wired direct to bat and inadvertently left on. Pulled speedo cable for 5 minutes. Checked voltage at the connector, none were more than bat voltage. Still read 18.5V, I'm guessing that is the max it is programmed to read.

So it looks like I'm taking this one apart.

Thanks for the info. I'm hoping to find a bad voltage regulator in there, possibly from the bad stator/and or regulator that the previous owner replaced. Ill post up what I find.
