Default Tips for drag racing my z on pavement

Yeah I know dasandbomb, that's one reason I was kinda scared on my takeoffs I was afraid to go over on the pavement. Dumb me had on shorts and a tanktop because it was kinda of a spur of the moment race. I wouldn't do it again without at least some pants on. I do pretty good on dirt but the pavement I was just bad. I'll get a little more practice on my take offs and I beleive I can take him. I can usually beat him at our track but today Marty (the ex guy) led the field and he got first, my buddies raptor second, a 250r third, and I took fourth. I have a way better time at the track we made than drag racing but today was the first day the ex guy finished ahead of me. He was running good. I think he got his confidence up after beating me in the drags the other night. Tommorrow I hope will be a different story. Oh trx250ROB I was working the clutch in my drags. If it'll help I'll try the powershifting next time. I'm really been out of touch with sport quads since high-school and I've got a lot of practice to do.

I take off in second for everything, expecially dragging. Higher gear ratio and a little less wheelie action. You just have to get the right amount of throttle and clutch grab when you take off. Practice makes perfect.

Hey guys,

does anyone drag on the 1/8 mile, if so what are some of your times, i can run the 8th in 7.8 sec and 85 mph, thats my best so far and i hope i can in prove it this year. My buddy has a banshee its pretty fast, we have not been able to get it to the strip but we are working on it. This cold weather kicks out butt.

i don't race my quad much but when i run my bike at the drag stip i only use the clutch to launch. if you shift without the clutch don't hold the throttle wide open but instead when you get ready to shift let off the throttle just long enough to sift then hit it again. if you shift without using the clutch you won't lose as much rpms as you will using the clutch. there are always new guys showing up at the race track and you can always tell they are new to drag racing because they are always dumping the clutch with each shift. this summer i'm installing an air shifter on my gsx1300 to quicking my shifts.

Texas,
That is true, but i have found a good way to shif, it just like that u are talking about but i just slap the shifter. A Good friend tought me that if u just put some presser on the shifter and then just slat the cluch u will not lose and rpm and sometimes if u do it right other people can barly tell when u shifted. Plus that seam like it would be a little easier on the cluches.

When I shift, I never let off the gas. I just pull in the clutch SLIGHTLY. I am better at this method that the "clutch lever slap" method. Plus I have watched some guys and they look like total retards when they do it, lol. They look like they are riding a bucking bronco and wave their left hand in the air and back down for another slap. You have to make sure that you have very very little freeplay in your clutch lever though.
