Default Tips for drag racing my z on pavement

Hey guys, I was wonderin if you guys could give me some tips for draggin my z. I lost to a buddies stock 400ex this last weekend. He's better than me and I hadn't drag raced anybody with a sport quad for ten years. I kept wheelieing bad bad in first and then in second I would wheelie pretty bad again, we were on pavement. If I leaned way over the front I spun really bad and still wheelied. When I wheelied I'd get scared and let off some and he already had a good jump on me. I lost by about a quad or a quad and a half. He rode mine and raced another guy riding his for him and he won by about two quads with mine. He wheelied pretty bad also but he still won. I just don't have the ***** I used to but I still would like to get good at drags. Any advice you've got is welcome like what's the best advice for dragging pavement, dirt, and maybe even loose gravel. Thanks for any help guys.

Get up on the machine, drop it in second and keep it full throttle. Dont get way up on the machine , but get up far enough to keep the machine from going over backwards. It doesn't matter if your tires are 1 inch off the ground or 3 feet, your accel. will be the same. The most important thing to remember is this: dont let up on the throttle untill you win, if you lose doing that than you need to upgrade to beat the guy.

P.S. buy a YFZ 450 and you wont have to ask those questions.

Practice and a little clutch work.
Don't dump the clutch completly on the start. Keep your rpms up and glide the clutch if you feel the front end coming up more than approx 6to 8in. off the ground just slightly (very slightly) pull the clutch in some more until you can maintain that height for maxium weight transfer. Once your speed is up and your front tires touch the ground let all they way out on the clutch. All this time keep the throttle wide open and let the chutch do the work. Don't get me wrong it will be harder on the clutch doing it this way but that's the only way your going to your going to get the fastest start.

Hope this helps and let us know the outcome of the next race.

Thanks guy for the advice. I know a lot of people say the z is really superior to the ex and I know it is more easily modded but in drags do you guys know who wins the majority of the time between the z and ex. Also when I ride my z it seems faster than the ex's I have rode, so does the z have more top end speed than an ex? I have been clocked at 68mph before by a car.

Thanks roost, I know it felt like it to me but I couldn't be sure we didn't race them at top speed.

Out of curiosity, do you guys power shift when dragging in pavement or on dirt? By that I mean hold the throttle open and shift without holding in the clutch?

my gear lever won't move unless I grab the clutch. I just keep the throttle pinned even during shifts.
