not knowing make, model & what's wrong limits the ability to say much of a price...
but if it's a yamaha sport machine it's likely 1 of 3 candidates... banshee, blaster, or warrior.
honda: 250r, 250x, 300ex, 400ex.
suzuki: LT250R, lt230, lt500
kawasaki: mojave, tecate

i would not go very high of a bid on it if it will be auctioned... you say all it's missing is a top end & a gas tank, but then again those are the big noticeable parts... there could be a lot more missing & busted, most of the parts for anything will go across ebay eventually and can be had for a reasonable price with patience.... then again, it may only be good as a parts bike or ebay material itself.
