How come everybody thought the Cannondale aluminum frame was so great, yet everybody doubts that Honda can produce one? You don't hear of C'dle frames breaking, so that unquestionably demonstrates that aluminum is a viable quad frame material. But, that's not to say it is ultimately the BEST material. What you end up with in the end depends on a variety of factors like economics, ease of manufacture, etc.
I think a company with Honda's sophistication can learn to work in aluminum just as well as anybody! Honda farts more money than Cannondale ever made, and they have been doing aluminum dirt bike frames for a while, so I think they are technologically up to the task. I would at least like to see a chromoly frame for a refreshing change though.
Honda probably had a bike in advanced development, but I think they got surprised by the light weight and the great suspension of the YFZ. That's why we got nothing but a cheezy cartoon to look at. They had to run back to the drawing board.

Forged aluminum is stronger than the steel used in atv frames. Less welds help a lot, makes for a stiffer and stronger frame, Honda has more money to dump into frame research than Cdale ridley, I can't believe you even say that Honda can't make a good aluminum frame. Everyone talked crap about the frames on the bikes, Honda took a risk and it paid off bigtime, enough said.

What if that picture is close to the real thing. Steel frame, rezzies on the shocks , red color, no reverse, no electiric starter, and handle just about the same as the Yamaha, but it has the Honda engine. Maybe Honda went back to the R frame but put the 4-stoke engine into it just like Yamaha did with there 450. this is just a guess on my part from reading different places. With no electric start it better be at less $500 less than the Yamaha.
Honda was able to put a starter on the XR400 engine, but on there other engines only the 250 and the 650 have starter not on the 450. I would think that they could get it to work, but maybe it didn't. Just something to thing about and wait till the 10th to see if true.

Isn't there supposed to be a CRF450X electric start off-road dirt bike in the works?? Kind of like Yamaha's WR line. There is a CRF250X. Seems like I heard that somewhere.

Cannondale did a magnificent job with their chassis, but honda isn't cannondale. From the way the EX and R aluminum swingarms held up, they better stick with steel. Shattered EX swingarms are WAY to common.
