even if the z was a lot better than the 400ex, i wouldnt buy any of them cause i think its pretty sad that three different companies have the same quad

ya the dvx is a few hundred more, but it is also the same quad as the z, liquid cooled, 398 cc, just revamped plastic.
Go with the z, and you wont be disappointed.

I have a pipe and air filter on my Z, my friend has a pipe, air filter, and stage 2 hotcam in his ex. My Z is still a little faster than his ex.
I am very happy with my Z. If I was going to buy a new quad it would be a yfz or honda 450.

The artic cat is a little better than the z and kfx, not power-wise, but the chain tightener on it is easier to tighten than the others, not something i would pay attention to when buying a quad. The honda is just outdated, it was one of the best at its time, now, that sweet new trx450 is hondas top sport quad.

I thought the 2004 KFX and Z 400s were also getting the updated tensioners, not just the DVX.
Of course, I'm too lazy to look, but that's what I remember.

Im too lazy to have looked, i dont own a kawasaki or suzuki so i dont go to their websites, i just read about that new dvx400 and found out that it had that new chain tightener adjustment doohickie, dirtwheels said it was better than the z400 because of it, but they should have included that too.

I thought the same thing about the Dirt Wheels article - why no mention of the upgrade to the KFX/Z400? I only happened to see it on another forum.
