Default 350 lbs., The New Weight Standard!!

With the TRZ and YFZ both coming in at 350 lbs., this is the new standard that manufacturers will have to meet in the future to be competitive!! A 370 lb bike (like the 400EX and Z400) is passable, and there is absolutly no excuse for a manufacturer producing a bike that is even one ounce over 400 lbs.

This puts the huge machines like the DS and V-force WAY out there! I don't see how the heavy machines will stay competitive in this market.

Um.. ok. I'll keep that in mind as I blow by the 400's in the sand dunes like they're standing still. If you ever drive in the sand dunes, you'd give more credit to the big bores. The 400's cant even make it up the big dunes, much less try to race on them. I'll give you a 30 second head start going up sand moutain and still school any 400. Just dont ask me to help when you get stuck 1/2 way up.

very good point weight is a very big factor when buying a new quad. at least for me if the yfz would of been alot heavier i prolly wouldent of got it u can throw a lighter quad around in the air. but in the future more and more aluminum/titanium parts are coming out and they keep getting lighter and lighter. maybe in a year well see a new quad that weights 300lbs. impossible. well only time will tell. i cant wait to see what the other "big" manufactures come up with to be factory competitive with the yfz/trx 450s they may raise the bar or they may fall on there face either way the atv market is growing greatly and the sport is growing dramaticly. its great..

In the dunes, it's all about power to weight ratio. Here I think the new generation 450s will win unless you bring a lot more ponies out of the V-force and you certainly can.

My biggest jump so far in the 700 is 38 feet distance. I dont think 2 more would be a big difference. I didnt bottum out, but I was just soaring over a dune. You dont have to be high up to go far. My freind recorded 41ft that same day on his Rappy. Same jump. I could have gone farther, but at some point the brain kicks in, and says dont kill yourself.

But anyway my point is, and some people dont get this, not everybody spends thier time on a MX track. I've never been to one. Some people like dunes, and the big bores have a place there for sure. Many poeple on this forum heve never seen a sand dune. But I dont get after them and say "there's absolutely no excuse for a 400cc quad"

A 350 lb. bike (with ~50 hp!) is like riding a toy! (A Blaster weights 325.) Toss it around like it isn't even there.

This is a post about weight, not horsepower, OK! My intention is to dis manufacturers of heavy bikes, not start an engine debate. I can't imagine how they will sell in this market??

They sell because quads like the YFZ and Predator feel like little kids toys to someone over 200lbs. I have no problem with the weight of the V and knowing I've got 700cc's of twin to work with always puts a smile on my face.
