figures, some people will say anything to sell something. never believe what MOST dealerships/sellers say unless you are very positive, most of the time, if they can tell you are new to quads, they will fill you full of BS just for the $$, anyway, id usually just check around in forums like these if you are ever intrested in a new quad. top speed for a warrior-61mph and top speed for a 400ex is 68mph, sorry for this post being OT.

sadly, thats as fast as they go, i read it in dirtwheels for the warrior, and atvsport for the 400ex , but they still run pretty good, but theres always that option to buy mods

If you're mostly trail riding, I'd say Warrior or Z-400 depending on the amount of money you have to spend. The Warrior is still one of the best trail quads around I think. They are very tank-like compared to other sport quads. The Z-400 has been said by many people to be just about the best current trail quad too. The 400ex is great at it, and the Z-400 just improved on the two areas where the 400ex was weak, engine cooling and reverse. For slow moving, tight, technical stuff, the liquid cooling helps out a lot. And I can't count the times reverse has gotten me out of some bad stuff. Don't get me wrong, the 400ex is great, but now you can get something better for the exact same price. Anyway, I would go with the Z-400, and if money is an issue, go with a Warrior. I've got a '93 warrior which has seen better days, i didn't get the warrior until '99 and the guy who had it before me pretty much ragged the sh%t out of it. If he could rig something up he did it. I've tried bring it back to life a little with a full FMF titanium 4 exhaust, stage II jets, and open air box w/K&N. My riding buddy rides a '01 400EX in pretty good shape, with all the same mods as mine. I can tell you the 400 will pull away a little because it only has 5 gears instead of 6 which means more shifting for me. It usually pulls away in about high 3rd or low 4th not by much though. However i can tell you if you know how to ride and can shift quick enough through the top gears in the warrior you could pull on 400 for a while until you run out of gears. Everybody who says the warriors are tanks they're right, i've revved the **** out of mine, i've probably had mine pegged in 6th for over 2 or 3 miles with out letting off even for a second. i've hit huge rocks, jumps, sunk it in mudd/water and it still ticks. By the way i've had to give my buddy a ride numerous times because something has went wrong on his 400. If anything i would go yamaha. Right now i'm deciding between a used raptor or a used banshee, i would get a 450 but that six or seven grand they cost is a little high right now. good luck

You hare the tallest 14 yr old in the world. Get a Raptor or KFX700. The 450 is kinda small.
