not as long as the atv market continues to boom, when it dies the manufacturers will convince everyone that that the 4strkes are crap and they now have some revolutionary technology and reinvent the 2 stroke

all this talk of emmisions is rediculous, do you realy think that your 2 stroke off roader is pumping out anywhere near as much toxic fumes as the average car,

combine that with the fact that as much as we love our atvs we probably all spend more time driving our cars and you begin to see the real senario and real culprits of polution,

in the UK the most ecologicaly sound form of personal transport is the scooter, and yep there alll 2 stroke and mixing oil with the fuel as they always have done.

WHY??

cos they have a nice little engine and a little engine doesnt produce the same emissions as a big engine regardless of the engine tipe and its fuel.

yep it does seem to be the end of the 2 stroke, but it may just be the beginning of some exciting times ahead for the development of the ATV,

its quite possable that the only way the fourstrokes will work round the legacy of 2 stroke power will be to pay much greater attention to the overall construction of what they produce, reducing the weight and improving handling will go along way in their favour after all its easy to talk about out and out brute force hp numbers but the power to weight ratio is much more important to how any vehile actualy performs,

it seems to me that the new wave of 450 atvs are here to replace the 250 2 stroke classes and personaly im waiting to see if the manufacturers are prepared to give us some truly open class style four strokes,

it seems that there are a multitude of reasons for why the 2 stroke must die not just enviromental but also legeslative measures to increase the safety, at the end of the day the manufacturers havent got a free reign on the vehicles they design and if they did i dont think they would produce an atv that would conform to what we all suposidly want from one,

Maybe it's more of a energyollution ratio. The average car puts out more power than an average 2-stroke engine but they might still pollute just as equal.
Let's call energy "power" instead.

Powerollution ratio (not real figures, just guesses...and trying to make a point)

Car: 2:1
2-stroke: 2:2

A car still pollutes more, but overall it creates more energy.

I'm quite worried about the snowmobile market actually. There's only like 2 or 3 4-stroke models and the rest of them are all 2-strokes. There's probably 2 dozen if not more models of snowmobiles and about 13-16% of the models are 4-strokes (assuming about three 4-stroke models and 24 total models).

your actualy wrong about the energy situation on a per cc basis the 2 stroke is the most powerfull internal combustion engine ever designed,

as an example my stock zilla is pumping out more power per cc than a dodge viper, and many so called super cars,

so if you look on tru efficiency basis 2 strokes produce there power more efficiently than four strokes cos they can produce more power with less effort,

we are gonna see injected 2 strokes in the the sled world real quick as well as more 4 strokes, Arctic Cat supposedly has a new 4 stroke around 800cc coming out next model year no one is sure if it will be N/A, turbo, or blown. there are rumors of all 3, i guess only time will tell
