Default 400ex VS 450r

Ok I haven't got a quad yet but I am working on it. I am either getting a 400ex or 450r. With this infomation please answer my questions: I am 14 about 5' 9.5" and 155 pounds. My family has 2 utility quads and out of the 105 hours on the Rancher I have probably put 75 to 80 of those hours on it. I have ridden on all kinds of terrans. I also know how to drive a clutch quad, I am not proficiant on one but I deffintally know how to do it. (Ridden a blaster a few times...yes i know a yamaha but oh well hahaha).

Seeing as how so many mods and stuff are coming out for the 450R would it even be wise to purchase a
400ex?

I am really stuck on what to get. I am probably moving to the Dover area in the September time frame and I plan on starting to save this summer. My parents say that I have to pay for part the quad that I want. So.....I want something that will last me a while ovioulsy honda, something that I can upgrade and modify a lot, but mostly something that im not gonna grow out of so....do I want to get the 450R or 400ex. Do you think that they will start to decrease the amount of mods/support on the good ol 400ex because of the new 450r????

1) Would I be able to handle the 450R
2) What are to top speeds of each
3) What are some of the best mods for each
4) How do you properly break in an engine
5) What does a HRC kit include and what does it do
6) What are some good techniques for learning to shift on like wheelies/hills

Thanks for you help.

1) Would I be able to handle the 450R - I think so with some time on the quad.
2) What are to top speeds of each - 450R runs around 74mph....400ex around 68-70mph
3) What are some of the best mods for each - A pipe will help both. The HRC kit seems good on the R.
4) How do you properly break in an engine - The way you are goin to ride it. But give it cool down periods threw the first tank of gas.
5) What does a HRC kit include and what does it do - it's a new cam, jets, baffle, air box lid, and it gives more power.
6) What are some good techniques for learning to shift on like wheelies/hills - experience is the best technique. LOL.

It depends on the type of riding you will be doing. The 450 engine likes to rev and is geared HIGH, where the 400 has a wide ratio trans and doesn't mind being lugged down. For tight trail riding, the 400 is the better machine. For more open trails and wide open country, the 450.

If you wont the 400ex but worried that they wont make mods for it soon, then dont worry. They still make parts for the 250r. Honda has sold way too many 400ex's to not make mods for them. Companies like Lonestar, Laegar, Maier, and other companies make much money from the 400ex.

THe 450r is still in the beginning stage. Sometimes they find something wrong with the first year model and change it the next year.

I dont think you will 'grow out of' either one of these bikes. I ride with plenty of adults (who act like teenagers) that ride 400ex's and have a blast. The 400ex can be modded beyond belief. I have a friend that flat tracks one. His goes about 110mph.

Both bikes are great, i would find a friend or someone that would let you ride there's and decide which you like better.
