seperate. you dont need a 50$ assortment of jets. just two of em. k&n yes, pre filter yes, pipe yes. mid pipe yes. plug maybe. the kits are affordable if you take out the 50$ for the "kit of jets".
just my 2 cents.
shop around.. you got the internet and a calculator.

1fast03z I hate to tell you but my 400 is not too much different than your 400z when did it come out like 99?! I think it is funny when people like you buy a quad, read a few posts and then all the sudden you are an expert on the theory of quad evolution... lol

What irritates me is!
Those 6-packs work pretty good.

Booth, it's downright hilarious. They are close enough it boils down to the rider.

I've asked this before and never got a decent answer. What exactly is so technologically advanced about the Z and so what is so outdated about the EX?

not much IMO. Z has double overhead cam, liquid cooled. 400ex single overhead cam, aircooled. double overhead camp = more power but more weight, single overhead cam = less weight, less power. So ya it really does boil down to the rider

Liquid cooling is new technology? Ex 4-valves and Z 4-valves. A dohc won't create more power than a sohc, just capable of producing power over a wider range. The pro to a dohc is that IF you use variable valve timing, it can translate into a longer torque curve. Very important for high reving engines. If it turned more rpms, I'd be more likely to agree with the dohc being an advantage. Just my opinion.
