It could be either one.Running without an air filter lid may have caused you to run too lean from the extra air if you didn't rejet. This can cause a burnt piston. If you didn't add enough oil with your gas when you pre-mixed that could cause a siezure as well.If there is enough of the piston left to look at, running lean usually melts the top side of the piston (and may leave aluminium on your spark plug) and lack of lubrication usually will scuff the sides of the piston.

Too much oil in the gas shouldn't cause the problems you described. It would probably foul the spark plug with that much oil before it hurt anything. You may need a little larger jet to allow for the amount of oil flowing through the carb instead of straight gasoline.

running too much oil will displace gas (lean condition) Odds are without jetting for the airbox lid removal and not rejjeting it ran too lean.

My be this will help...

If you had a good air filter, running with the lid off wouldnt hurt.
Now, like oldyeller said, you could have burned a hole in your piston.
If you take your box lid off, That would increase air, making it run too lean.
Now, an air cooled bike like the blaster, runs at about 290 degrees F.
If you ran lean, this could easly push your bike to 350+ degrees, melting your piston.
Thats a safe bet, Instead of buying a$5 jet, you now have to pay boo koo bucks for a new motor!!
Sorry man, best of luck!!!
