Default Have two choices- Z400 or Rappy 660R...

This isn't really a comparison thread, I know there's thousands of those. But I'm looking to get a new quad and there's two options at the dealer for me right now. An '03 Z400 in nice shape, 75% left on stock tires still, with 2.3 years remaining manufacturer's warranty, needs nothing for $4k. (could get better deal privately, but I need to finance a few bucks). The other is an '01 Raptor 660R in good shape but not as nice as the Z, 40-50% tread left on stock tires, no warranty, but needs nothing for $4.1k. I have a Warrior now and want bigger. I know the Raptor is faster, but the Z has better handling stock, and maybe even better reliability. I'm also thinking the Z is a better deal for it's shape, warranty and what not. There's a YFZ who rides with us sometimes... but I think with the Z piped, jetted, air filter set up and maybe front spacers, I could take him. No offense to YFZ owners, they are definitely faster, but I'm the better rider... So, what do you guys think?

To me, seems a no-brainer. Get the Z. Going from the Warrior, the Z will impress with handling, accel, etc .. and if it's in as good a shape as you say then seems a better bargain considering it's two years newer and still cheaper than the rap. Also, the Rap, being an '01 may develop transmission troubles ...

It would be a hard decision for me as well, but since I'm broke I'll just stick with my Warrior.

Yeah, I definitely was voting for the Z too, just hope I don't outgrow that too. Oh well, it seems real reliable to mod, so I'll be fine I had considered modding the Warrior... numerous time. But, it's potential will still never equal some of these newer, bigger, faster quads. So... I guess I'll be moving on.

Z everyone?

I would go with the Z, its plenty powerful and agile, with great handling, plus its 2 years newer, and the fact that it still has a warrenty. Cant go wrong with either. why not take them for a quick ride and see what you feel more comfortable on.

Here in the Southwest with our bigger dunes and wide open riding it would be a tougher choice. Where you are in Florida I think the Z is the way to go.

I would take the Raptor over the Z any day but not an 01 because of the tranny problems they are known for. I would take the Z but not an 03 because of the frame and axle problems they are known for. Both of them are overpriced and if I had to choose I would choose to keep looking.
