Default 250R....start it all?

Did the 250R start what atv racing has become today....if not what fourwheeler did bring it up to another level that many thought would never be possible when dirtbikes were the only major offroad sport...what i am really asking is which fourwheeler started the atv frenzy that is going on today and growing rapidly....

LT250R baby. Suzuki threw down the gauntlet first. Honda deserves much credit in the fact that there 250R version was a much better starting spot for most types of racing though.

Maybe you didn't follow racing until the 400ex came out, but I assure you that as soon as there were racing quads, there were racing classes for them. MX, XC, TT, endurance racing, it was all there. There were classes for trikes well before quads anyway.

i just figured it was the honda 250r because when you watch old movies like the blackwater 100 which ran in the early 90's the honda 250R's dominated the sport....with only a few suzuki's in the atv running....there was a lot of 250x's also but i figured the R had a much bigger impact on the domination of the sport....but i wasn't exactly sure of it....and i was wrong but there is only one way to learn...

I have the Black water DVDs and see pretty much an even distribution of Suzuki and Honda among. a rarity was the Banshee in them, and sometimes the odd warrior.

You guys are forgetting about the 250R three wheelers that were one of the first high performance atvs on the market!

I don't know if they were THE first ones, but they were one of them that gave people another option than dirtbikes! Remember, people were racing three wheelers before the 4-wheelers came to market!

2fun, I agree, the trikes really started it. iwannaride2 asked which quad was responsible for starting the current popularity of atv's. After the LT was introduced, many people saw the writing on the wall for the three wheelers. heck, it wasn't long after that companies were springing up that sold three to four wheeled conversions. And thus the 'frenzy' began.
