Default Glowing raptor headpipes...

I have had my Raptor since Dec. 28, 2004. I give it regular oil changes and run 87 octane gas sometimes 89 octane. I have never brought it in to get the valves adjusted and it has probably 75 hrs on it. It runs great but if it's running and sits for just a little while (appx 1 min) or I am going slow in the trails and not getting a lot of air on the engine the headpipes will glow red. Then I will run it hard like it loves to be ridden and get the air flowin' it will almost instantly stop glowin'. What causes this? Its kinda scary, does anyone know? Maybe better coolant or oil, I currently run Yamaha coolant and engine oil. Thanks for any help fella's.

Is that what it is. That i'm running too rich and the unspent gases are burning in the headers?

Coolant and oil will never affect the temps of a header. What’s causing that glowing is exhaust temps. The only thing that would affect the exhaust temps would be something resulting in the fuel/air mix. Try re jetting, sounds like your lean.

It might be a yahama thing. My buddies yfz quad has done this since it was brand new. We thought something was wrong with it. He made some calls and they said to ride it and if anything messes up just bring it back to the dealership and they will warranty whatever was wrong.

your not suppose to run low grade gas in the raptor engine man, 91 octane or higher
