Old 2 Strokes Racers vs. New Four Stroke Racers
#1
Over the years two strokes like the 250R, the Banshee, the Blaster, the Quadzilla, and more have dominated in the speed and horse power departments. And it seems that it is just recently that the high tech four stroke racers like the YFZ, and 450R have caught up and are mabey even starting to surpass the old 2 strokes. Here are what I consider the big dogs in each category.
2 Strokes: Honda 250R, and 250x, Suzuki LT 250R, and Quadzilla 500, Yamaha Blaster, and Banshee, Kawasaki Tecate 4, and more.
VS.
4 Strokes: Honda 450R, and 400 ex, Suzuki Z 450, Z 400 and its clones, Yamaha YFZ 450, and Raptor 700R, Polaris Predator 500, BRP 650 DS X, and more.
I think todays four strokes are much better

The 4-strokes of today have 15-20 years of chassis/suspension/braking technology improvements, but the old school 2-strokes can still outpower them with ease when well modded, it's just the nature of the engine design. I also think 2-strokes are much more exciting to ride and sound great. The single cylinder thumper 4-stroke sound has always been very boring.

the yfz sounds awesome with just the baffle pulled in my opinion anyway. the honda sounds good too. well 1st of all what are the 400ex and blaster doing in this conversation? even the z400? i still think the quadzilla and banshee can be made faster then any yfz or 450r, but the others wont mod for mod. 330rs i hear are more of a match to a modded 450

Anyone who thinks the 450 4 strokes can even come close to a zilla. Has probably never ridden a nicely tuned bike. Look at my picture page and tell me That fora 16 year old bike It Rocks..

I happen to think that the 250R came with a better overall package from the factory than even some of the new 4-strokers. Yes the new bikes have more power, but the light weight of a 250R combined with its legendary chassis geometry is incredible to ride. And as far as technology goes, the old 250Rs are still ahead of some of the new bikes (except for motor technolgy). I mean as far as I know until the '06 YFZ, no other sport quad came with a twin piston rear caliper like the R - but I could be wrong. Not too mention other features such as an aluminum swingarm (in 88 and 89) combined with an eccentric chain adjustment. Maybe Im biased, but in my opinion all a 250R needs is some shocks w/rezzies and a pipe to hang with the new bikes.

From my experience high preformance four stroke 450's will beat 2 strokes on an mx track or off the line in a drag, but the 2 strokes like the banshee, or the lt 500 quickly overtake the 450's and shoot past them in a drag race. It all depends on what type of racing your doing to determine who wins, at least in most cases.
