the raptor would be a much better trail bike, it's got loads of torque and reverse...as for the yfz, it's more for racing, jumping, and being light and fast, depending upon the rider the raptor will probably jump the line faster b/c of it's torque and weight, but think about it, are you going to race and jump, or trail ride that's the decision you have to make, not which will be faster in a drag, frankly that doesn't matter. It's all about what you like, after all you will be the one that rides it.

 

o another thing, the raptor's center of gravity is higher and it's heavier, so that could be a bad thing too.

 

I find this topic very funny BOTTOM LINE machines only make up so much off the story yes mods are important and with that i will tell you a story to many times i have flown by every thing under the sun simply because i shocks 2500 hundred shock kit and some IMS roll foot pegs make me faster then any stock ride over the woops down the knarly hills and up the knarly hills . my best all time story was a day ride at a local park i ride at in claifornai this guy had his yfz all moded and pimped out nice machine for sure very fast BUT after the first lap i went by him like a bat out fo hell on my 660 lightly moded where it counts . so later needles to say he says to me what the hell do you got in that thing and i said other then CT sonice pipe jet kit and lid off and the above mentioned mods nothing and he looks at me and says how the hell did you blow past me and i siad bigger ***** and bigger forarms oh plus i run 7 to 10 miles every day .

SO THE MORAL of this story is yes the machines can only do so much but after that it's up to you the machine and how well it runs means the differnce between smoking some one or just riding with them I run into guys with mean machines but they are out of shape and have small forarms and small ***** if thats you it don't matter what you sit on i will run past you in 4th gear over the woops smile and wave as i shift into 5th

I would get those BIG (as you call them) ***** looked at.. Could be some kind of mutation... and running from the couch to the fridge doesnt count on running distance.... But I will say on this topic...I have yet to ride a Rappy but I do love my 07 450R to death.... Good all around quad....So far....

 

Its a toss up depending on the rider..im 250 so i needed the bigger bike. The rappy is a little faster..

Good first post... and not to worry...

Those of us (like you and I) that have owned, ridden, rode with, and been around the quads in question can easily tell who else has also just by reading the posts. Most of us will basically post the same thing for the most part with different wording.

 

i own an 07 raptor 700r se. i would say get the 700r. not because its what i have, but because of how reliable and tunable it is. all the 450s are nice bikes, but they are only small high compression engines that you cant get that much out of. throw in a je 12.5:1 piston, exhaust, air filter, pc3, and youre taliing guranteed 50-55hp. the raw power is amazing too. its right there because of the fuel injection. more and more aftermarket parts are coming out too. eventually you can probably get racing fuel injectors with more holes in the nozzle. theres one other really nice thing about it too. it has reverse.

Go with the Raptor because of your size. My cousin is 6'4 and 300lbs. and it handles him great. Im 6'1 235lbs. and it handles me great. I have rode a yamaha 450 and got right off of it because I felt like I had no room. Just felt cramped on it. Too small for me. All the guys I see riding 450's are not that big. No offense to them. Im sure they are out there. The big guys I know and see all ride Raptors.

 

yeah i gota agree the 2006-2007 ltr does have harsh suspention but you said you weigh 250 and the ltr has some where around 10 inches of travel
