Usually it means they have put on stickers and a few aftermarket parts. I've never seen a atv advertised as "race ready" that truly was. A neighbor of mine put a 440 kit in a 400ex and did nothing else. When he sold it the ad had "RACE READY" in bold letters.

99 out of 100 times its just words to help lure in the people who don't know any better.

ktm's are the only "race ready" quad on the market right now. adjustable a-arms, camber and axle. one of the best shock packages available. basically a factory quad with all the expensive racing aftermarket parts on it,but they're about 9g

The quad world has a way to go as compared to mx bikes for "race readiness." KTM is the leader right now, the others will all need more mods to be competitive depending what you want to race. For MX the Suzuki isn't to bad stock.

5 or 6 years ago, yes. No way with the current crop of 450s out there now. I am guessing you want the quad for mx right? If so and on a tight budget, you can often find the older YFZ and 450Rs around in the 3-4K range. Many of them even have upgrades already but probably cost a bit more. $ for $ the older '04 and '05s can still compete fine when modded.

most racers are based on the 450 class you can have fun on the 400ex. it won't be real competive against the 450's

KTM still isnt race ready- it doesnt come stock with nerfbars. How the heck are you supposed to race without nerfbars- your foot and ankle would be SCREWED if you slipped off the pegs while getting air.

None of the quads are TRULY race ready ATM, but here's what i would call race ready:
50hp
50" wide
11" travel at least on front and rear using Fox Float X Evol's and Fox Podium X on rear.
50"+ wheelbase
nerfbars
tether kill
steering damper (if you're picky)
adjustable anti vibe sterring stem (if your picky)
>360lbs

The KTM is truely race ready for XC. It doesn't need nerfs and many xc racers don't use them. They will also be MX race ready for 09 when they make the MX quad, which will have nerfs. Your just trying to make a xc quad into a mx quad.
