this guy wants to sell me his predator for 4000....its a 2004 dale jr. special edition with 14hr on it... it has nerfs, racing bumper, pure polaris exhaust and jetted. fox shox, and holeshot tires 20 in rear and 21 in front.....so i was wanting to know if i should pick it up or leave it alone..
heres a few questions:
also around how much power do these things put out?
how do they handle on the track?
how do they compare to the 450's?
how quick is it?

Well, then I guess I'll be the first to give my opinion, the predator 500 eh? well its not too bad of a quad, reverse, straight axle, but i'm not too sure about that polaris engine, ive had to deal with them before and they can be high maintenance, and from what i hear, they give out as much power as a 400cc quad. and for $4000 you should be able to get a better used quad, thats what I think anyway

It is a little quicker than the 400's, but the 450's out now are lighter. Good power, but I don't think it's a good track model. A few jumps and you'll be replacing the air box that got broken.
Check your local papers and craigslist to see what they're selling for in your area. More than likely you'll see the Troy Lee and standard Predators as the Dale Jr was a limited edition.
If you want a fun ride for the trails, some sand and a little track action, offer him 3500.

My brother has a Predator 500. With a good slip on, DynoJet kit, a K&N with the air box lid removed, and dropping a tooth in the front it has the exact same acceleration and top speed as a Raptor 660 with the same mods. Even runs the same in sand and pulls hills indentically. It's crazy how close it is to my wife's Raptor. I don't know if that answers your question or not.

they put out as much power as a 400cc quad? no.... a lot more.
it's faster than a 660r but slower than a 700r from what a lot of people say- you cant say that about a 400

i'd say 660r vs pred it comes down to rider, They are close. 400cc power? JOKE. 3 of my buddies have predators, pretty rock solid motors. One just bought a regular 04 in good shape for 2k the other bought a 03 for 1600. Seems like that is way overprice even if it does have low hrs and is a dale jr model.

I like the predator personally, but used you could probably get a better price. It is heavier than the 450s but the ktm motor is very strong and fast. I saw where one reply said they have motor problems, i havent heard anything about this but very few people in my area own one so idk about that.

On my second predator with no problems. I thought they didn't have reverse until 2005, but maybe I'm wrong. The only problems they had with earlier models was gear shifting was rough to say the least. Seems steep in price, but very low hours. I have had several quads, from the raptor 660 to the suzuki 400. I think you can figure out which one I like the best! BTW, I only paid $5k for my brand new 07 Troy Lee Predator I now have! I don't think I would pay more than $3k. If it doesn't have reverse, I wouldn't even consider it, that is a drag!
