I'm sorry. But you don't know what you're talking about.

The KTM 525 is better at everything (except price than the 700r)

This weekend I went to little sahara with 4 buddies of mine here's what they were on:

Nat: 2008 KTM 525 stock with the exception of an FMF pipe.

Cody (15): 2008 Outlaw 525 bone stock.

Mike: 2005 450R with a HRC kit and trinity stace IV pipe

Danny: 2006 700r with a programmer, full Yoshimura and most importantly, a 734 big bore kit with cam.

There was also another guy there with a 700r that he spent WAY more than $3000 on losing to Nat every time. Once Cody got on it it looked like Cody was at LEAST four quads ahead of the pack.

Here you can see most of them racing and the orange 700r red-lighting/leaving early out the hole. (he still lost on top end)

My buddy with the 700r was still faster than the guy with the orange one who spent $3000 plus on his *and* he had an extended swingarm.

Well KTM sure is building a name for themselves in sport atv-ing pretty fast, with all the hype around the 450 and 525, I bet that everyone is dying to ride one, I sure am, I have ridden a 700r SE before, the most radical 4-stroke I've driven by far, but that KTM 525 sounds like it may have more kick, I guess I wont know until I go to the KTM dealer in the next town over, great pictures by the way

I ride with two other guys that both have KTM 525s now, and they seem to love them. They don't seem to be without their quality issues though. (Not at all unusual for a 1st year quad)

We used a piece of old radiator hose to reconstruct an intake boot after the stock one split after just a few hours on the clock. This seems to be a common problem with the KTMs.

Besides the air intake boot, I guess braking quality seems to degrade quicker than normal. People have had rear calipers stick or break, and apparently people are also breaking footpegs (not sure how heavy these people are!)

I recommend to everyone, regardless of make or model, to not jump on the bandwagon and buy a first year quad if you are not comfortable being the guinea pig. Wait another year or two, then make the move.

I can't agree more. I remember the Raptor 660's had the same issue when they first came out too. ( i believe they had starter issues too)
