they made a 400L 2stroke and a 500 4stroke. they only make the 500 now.the 400 is liquid cooled and oil injected "you can block off the oil pump and pre mix if you want to"".as far as which one is better it all depends on the rider.i think they're more 500's than 400L's just because they quit making the 400L.you can ask at the polaris forum lots of scrammy owners in there

Most of the 500's were 4X4's but there was a time there when they were offered in a 2X4 version.
The best does depend on the rider.Some like 2 strokes and some like 4 strokes better.
The 4 strokes require less attention but there's more hp. readily available for the 2 stroke.
The 500 has good power but there's some pretty fast 400's out there that I don't see most 500's beating.
