If a 450 is ran well, Not of the rev limiter, always warmed up. Oil changed ever 3-4 rides and clean filters how long should it last?

This will also be my first racing quad so should I start of with something a little less sensitive if that's the right word. Basically something that isn't as easy to miss something minor that could turn major after some time.

The honda is the most reliable and should last the longest. The top three reliable 450s would be the honda,ktm/polaris (use same motor),and IMO the rotax can am.with valve adjustments, filters they should last forever. If I were to choose one for racing.I would take the New ktm 450 sx,or the old xc.

I have ran my 07 TRX every weekend for the past 2 years. It has not needed to see the shop at all. I know a guy with an 04 and he is still on his OEM piston and rings. He has had nothing done either.

I have a dozen buddies with the HRC kit Hondas, and I have one as well. Mine is an 04, that gets run hard and long every winter in the desert, and it is doing fine four years later! All my buddies have 200-500 hours on theirs, and nobody needing a rebuild!

Got to say that we all do frequent oil changes, and we all run high tech ester synthetic oils from Redline and Maxima. We keep up on valve adjustments, and keep our air filters well maintained.

The other 450's that runs with us are a Kawi, and I would say it has 100+ hours on it by now (this guy rides it hard!). The Yamahas are holding up just fine as well. All are high hours with no problems. Got to say that these guys aren't as maintenance minded as the rest of us......

50" wide is good for you track guys and desert guys, but the trails around here are 50" wide. A tight trail rider would spend his whole time smashing tires into trees.

Have a '04 yfz here. Guy I bought it from raced it on the weekends. He had 1 rebuild of the engine (not bored). I've owned it 2 seasons and only issue had was the decompression plug popped out. Which is a known issue.

I'd say if taken care of and not abused (many 450's are) you can expect it to live as long as any other quad.

I would have to say about 6-8 years would be a good time to go out and buy a new quad. The quad will last a very long time if well maintained maybe 10-15 years or longer. With the rate that they are building faster and better machines it is always good to buy new and sell the old one even know that it is still running right.

Just my opinion.

My 04 is still running stung with almost all dune riding which is high RPM riding almost all of the time. Only thing that I had to fix was the shifting shaft, snapped while down shifting, was told it was a defect in the metal. Other than that runs like a champ.

These new 450s are great.....all of them will run for years without rebuilds with proper maintenance...... the days of the 2-stroke rebuilds are over.....
