Front Bumpers
#1
Does anybody have one of those larger sized/ wide front bumpers? Similar or equal to the DG ChromeLight type? I was wondering how easily they bend. I have been trying to decide if I like the look of them, I think I do. Anyway, if I try to mow over a 1" poplar sapling with my quad, will the bumper bend?
Also, can anybody hazzard a guess at how much the full belly armor weighs? (A-arm, Belly, Rear skid)
Thanks in advance.

Philze my man, it would help a little more if someone knew what model you rode. Prices should be around $80-120 each for the peices you're looking for (depending on manufacturer and who you order them from).

I ride a '99 TRX400EX. I see those big bumpers on race quads in the mags and kinda want one.
I ride in woods alot and sometimes there are blowdown trees that I have to plow through, or over. So, that is why I also want the belly armor. It looks as if the armor would help alot in sliding over those bigger logs. The underside of the 400EX is basically wide open with a rats nest of frametubes to catch on every little stumpy branch that sticks out. I am worried about the weight cuz I like to catch a little air sometimes and the front shocks already bottom out all the time. Maybe I am a little heavy for it at 180#, or the EX itself is a little on the heavy side already.
Armor before new shocks though...:-)

I have the DG Alloy Series bumper on my Warrior and it is worth the money. It has hit everything from quads to big pine trees and hasn't got a dent in it yet.

Philzie,
I have experience with bumpers from DG, AC, and PRM. For me, PRM wins hands down. I use the PRM 1.25" Baja front bumper on my 400EX and it has taken more abuse than any bumper I have used before.
For the full body plate, I prefer DG, but on the swingarm I again would go with PRM.
Regards,
Dennis

Dhines-Did the PRM bumper work with the DG skidplate? The reason I ask is that some of the aftermarket bumpers won't work with the DG. I had to modify the stock bumper to accomodate part of the skidplate that turns up in the front.
Also did the PRM rear skid work fine with the DG? I have wanted to add the bumper and rear PRM plate like yours but was unsure if it all worked together.
Does anyone know who makes a good sixpack rack for the 400ex. I see that Armadillo (may not be correct spelling) makes one but I have not seen anyone with one and would like to know how sturdy the mounting is. There isn't much room to mount anything on the small grab bar on the 400ex.
Thanks,

I saw a six pack rack for the 400EX at the Dennis Kirk Scratch and Dent store for like $40. Don't remember what brand it was though. I almost bought it cuz it was so cheap. But, it was So HUGE. I thought it would be ugly and bend easily. (keeping in mind I crash sometimes)

PRM makes a 6-packer
Sounds like I am better off to get all one brand. Hopefully they will all work together with one another.

Bshiels,
As I recall, I may have had to do a bit of pruning on the bottom part of the bumper. It really wasn't anything serious though. There is a thin metal shield on the PRM that overlapped a bit. All it took was a few minutes of filing.
There were no issues with installing the PRM swingarm skid plate. I think I may have installed a few washers to increase the gap between the plate and the brake rotor but aside from that, everything lined up just fine. It has been the toughest swingarm skid I have owned by far.
