Default YFZ 450 or Banshee

I have a cousin who's 13, about the same age as me. He asked me the other day what quad he should get out of these two. I didnt want to answer because i've never ridden either and didn't want to give him the wrong info. What do you guys think? He's about 5'2'' i think. probably weighs about 130. He's been riding for over 6 years including a blaster which he sold. He wants to know if he's too small for the yfz or if it's too much power for him. he also wants to know if the banshee is a good for openfield/trail riding and maybe a little jumping here and there. All answers and suggestions would be appreciated. Oh yea, one thing is that he isn't too fond of Hondas so don't suggest any honda quads.

I think that he is too small for either. I would say go with a Raptor 350, ride it until he's a little bit bigger. I think it would probably be too much power for him, and too big physically. I'm 15, after 1 year of riding an auto 90cc I jumped up to a 450cc manual, probably not the best thing for the average kid, but I'm a pretty fast learner. But it physically fit me well and I felt comfortable on it, so it was all good.

So yeah, I would say get a Raptor 350, maybe tell him to ride it until he's 15, maybe even 16, then I would go to something like a YFZ.

I would say the yfz450. I say that bcs I like the four strokes. You also have to include that the banshee would be a gas hog if your friend rode it in the power band all the time, which is the only way to get any power out of a 2 stroke. Also the constant fuel mixing which comes with 2 strokes. Your friend IS kinda small for both, but he should be growing like a weed by now. I am 14, 5'7'' and 135lbs and I'm looking to get a trx450r, only bcs I like Honda.

ok thanks. Would the z400 be too powerful/too big for him? i read some reviews on a raptor 350 and they weren't too good. Many people said the raptor will have you asking for more power. Then i read a review on a z400 and seemed like it's a pretty good all-around quad. Is it a good atv for him? Thanks in advance.

I think that the Z400 is a great quad, and is definitely a great trail quad. I think that it is a better choice for a 13 year old than the YFZ or the Banshee. It is definitely larger and has a much better engine than the Raptor 350. It should last him for quite a few years, maybe when he turns 15 or 16 he can trade it in for a YFZ.
