Thank you, I am too. I gave him $100 for his trouble, because I felt sorta bad about the whole thing. It was my fault for not looking it over more.

But anyway I'm going to keep looking for a little bit healthier of an atv

Cool I'm keeping this one

Alrighty so yesterday I went to look at another 400ex and I bought it. This one is much more sound and I feel much more confident in it. It was about 4 hours away, so I had an old friend of the family who knew a lot about quads go look it over and ride it before I even considered going to see it. After he gave it the ok I went up there and looked it over and drove it myself before buying it.

This one is a 1999 Red 400ex with the 440 (Wiesco 13:1) big bore kit, DG front bumper, DG nerf bars, DG six pack rack (no use to me), DG full exhaust, Pro Armor Swingarm Skid, and Renthal Handal Bars. It has Maxxis Razor Front And Rear Tires on douglass red label aluminum wheels. The 440 kit has maybe 15 hours on it. And I know the entire history of the bike.
I got it for 2K

I have two questions though,
*The guy who built the motor said I could rejet and run on 93 ocane if I wanted to. Is this a good idea? It runs on 114 right now...
*The bike doesn't have an airbox lid; the guy I bought it from said it needs the extra airflow, but I don't think that's accurate. But just to be sure, do lids hurt airflow significantly?

Thanks guys

A 13:1 compression ratio will require you to use race gas, I'm afraid. It would ping badly with 93, overheat and melt down, regardless of how you jetted it.

Alright that is what I figured. 110 octane is much more refined, so I imagine it should burn cooler, and more pure. I'll just run it on 110. There is a BP about a mile from my house that carries it anyway
