Default 400ex noise

2002 400ex
so, i changed my front sprocket yesterday to a 14 tooth, but now when i ride it makes an annoying/loud noise. sound like its coming from the rear.
if i go down the road and hold my clutch in itll make the noise. wondering if its my clutch because if im in 1st and i hold the clutch in a rev it up itll try to pull but when il idleing it wont only if i rev it high with the clutch all the way in. only makes noise when im moving. i put 10-30 mobile 1 full syn. been running it about two months now and just started making the noise last time i rode. now its louder.i was thinking maybe its my carrier bearing but idk. later today ill make a video and show the noise. im sure that will help alot.
thanks for any help provided.

Or could it be my chain? It is very gritty from the last time I lubed it. From the dirt and oil/grease together

When you change sprockets its a good idea to change both and the chain. If your swinger bearings are toast the axle will move side to side when the rear tires are off of the ground.
The creeping is the clutch or clutch cable. The clutch lever should have up to 3/4" play. Its common for the the 400ex clutch cable to burn on the header, check it out. Replacing the clutch is rather easy on these quads. Tusk makes a good clutch kit that comes with hd springs. What year is the 400?

I found the problem. I already bought both sprockets and a new chain. and a whole new carrier with bearings. Should be coming sometime next week.

So the noise is the carrier bearings? Sounds like you also have a issue with the clutch?

My chain, sprocket, and carrier w/bearings should be coming today or tomorrow.
And tips for taking off the carrier? I watched a couple of videos I know what all I have to take off. Just wondering if you know any tips that will make it go smoother.

Reverse thread for the axle nut and good snap ring pliers. I would put a very small amount of anti seize on the hub splines when reassembling.

Yeah I got it all apart, new carrier in. Just waiting for my chain and sprockets to come in and I'll put the axle back in. And all back together. It was actually pretty easy.

Yea, there pretty straight forward. Keep a eye on your axle nut. Its common for it to loosen up.
