wike up and my 4stroke honda xl185s (1987) had a pool of gas under it whats goin on?

i recently cleand the carb and i have been leaving the petcock on.
also my oil has a slight gas smell and is slightly leaking from the kick start how can i fix this.

Keep the fuel valve off when not in use.Sounds like the float needle is worn. Never like Honda Keihin carbs because you couldn't change the seat but possibly Keyster still makes kits for these.Keyster Carb Kits Or at least replace the float needle,check the floats for saturation.

Agree with the above.
When cleaning the carb, be sure to hit the air bleed(s) hard. A clogged air bleed can let fuel siphon out of the bowl. On certain bikes, I can drain the tank by covering the air bleed with my fingertip. Tends to freak the owner out.
