Okay, so what's everyone using for chain cleaner? How about chain lube? Any special de-greaser out there that works better than others, or is plain old Autozone brake cleaner good enough/safe enough for the typical o-ring chain?

 

I wash my Raptor, then I wipe as much of the dirt off that I can with a rag. Then I spray it down with WD40, and hit it with a chain brush to break up the rest of the dirt and rinse it off. Then I wipe it off again with a clean rag and lube it with PJ1. I'm sure there a 1,000 different ways to do the same job, and your going to get a 1,000 different opinions. The only thing that counts is to get the chain as clean as you can and then re-lube it. Brake cleaner probably wouldn't be good for the O-ring chain though?

 

Mine actually calls to use kerosine. It's supposed to lube the o-rings or something. Lube it when the chain's warm too, supposed to soak in better. I use a soft wire brush dipped in my paper cup 'o kerosine to get the big stuff off during the cleaning. Of course, if you use the wire brush, careful of your o-rings. Labor of love, and well, there's lots of love baby.

The brake cleaner should work good. I don't see why it would eat the o-ring. As for lube, I like Bel-rays chain lube, but it is too sticky and collects dirt. I started using Bel-ray's 6n1 spray to lube my chain and I like it. It leaves a film that isn't sticky. Everyone should have a can of this around the house. I have used it to break rusted bolts, on door hinges, oil chain, and even as carb cleaner! Slant six Crysler, sprayed half a can through the carb and it started running perfect.

 

Kerosene is the stuff to use, pour some on a rag and start putting some elbow grease into her. My chain looks clean all the time, it also lubes the chain some, kerosene. Then go for a short 1 mile ride on pavement or a clean surface and come back and lube that chain. Oh and I take my garden hose with no end and just put the quad on a jack and rotate the tires with the garden hose spraying the chain, it cleans every piece of dirt and sand off the chain and sprockets. This is before the kerosene cleaning.

 

I use a MOOSE chain scrubber. Fill it up with chain cleaner jack up the back end of my quad pop the scrubber on the chain and put the quad in 1st and let it go. In about 2 mins time my chain is sparkling clean. Then I use MAXIMA chain wax. I'm lazy and I don't like taking all that time to clean every nook and cranney on my chain. I let the scrubber do the work for me.

 

Now thats the way to clean your chain. Where did you find this scrubber?
