Drags

I know alot of people hate this questain but its just something that i want to know. in your opinion what do you think are the 5 fastest stock quads in a drag race. Ive always figured a 'zilla, banshee, tecate 4, lt250r, 250r (not it that order) and maybe a 400ex would fit in there somewhere.

Last year me and the kids took a vacation to the "Little Saraha" in Ok. and had an awsome time. It was difficult to tell what was "stock" or modified. We have a 250r with a 500r in it that appears to be stock to the untrained eye. Banshees are awsome--Possibly the most consistant straight line machines out there. Everyone had so much fun I can't remember anything really dominating out there. Our creation would beat most of them but needed better paddles. Some of them may have done better with different gearing. You see some creations there that are for nothing but dragging and don't turn or jump. The Banshee is a great compromise for the big sand pile. Gardner10

Actually Yamaholic is pretty close except the Zilla beats the Banshee both being stock. I have an old bar graph from 1988 3&4 wheel action showing the times on a 1/4 mile concrete drag strip, courtesy of a Tecate4 web page I can't remember (sorry):

These are 8 run averages by the same driver.
I've grass dragged a Sport 400 and he always hooked up better off the line but I always beat him by a couple lengths in 500 feet (short race). I would imagine the 400EX might beat the 250s in a short race since they hook up very well, but in the 1/4 mile the 250s should pull ahead, actually I might get to race one this weekend if he comes out.

I should probably add that those numbers mean: 1/4 mile speed (all bikes hit top speed before the end), 1/4 mile time, 60 foot time.
I guess they raced the Mojave because it was the fastest 4 stroke at that time, but I think these days a Big Bear 600 4x4 might give it a run for its money.

killefitt,
I checked out those charts. I assume those quads were modified. I have owned all the quads listed except the Mojave. Here is my experienced list of these quads stock.
MPH
1. Lt500R=80
2. Lt250R=75
3. Tecate4=73
4. Banshee=70
5. TRX250R=68
The Lt250R and the Banshee seem to be way off the mark. Maybee the Lt was an older model than mine w/different gear ratios. But, I've never seen a stock Banshee do 77 MPH and even a heavily modified Banshee (350cc) will not stay that close to an Lt500R. Click 3rd gear and a Banshee is history. I rememeber a HP Monster Quad Shootout back in '97 when ATK came out with the 605 Rotax prototype on a Lonestar chassis. They ran the ATK605, Lt500R (stock) and Banshee (highly modified to compensate 4 displacement). The Lt won big consistantly and the 605 and Banshee were a draw. You know that Banshee had to be fast.
Well anyways, that's my 2 cents.

No they said they were all stock machines, and they were most likely all 1988s. I don't know about the 500 but I've raced many a banshee with stock gearing and pipes and I'd say they definitely have more than 2 mph on my top speed, but I don't have any idea how fast we're going. Unless a stock Banshee can't rev out in high gear but I would think they could.

When I was in Glamis I rode a 400EX and my dad rode a 250R. When we were going back to camp, we raced each other on the Sand Highway. We were going 20 when my dad pulled up next to me and gave me the nod. We both nailed it and were dead even until I'd say 55. Then he edged out in front and pulled away.
