the blaster is cheaper so you get worse suspension handling athough the new brakes i'm sure are good.
i'm guessing a piped and ported properly jetted blaster would be similar to a stock 400ex and a z400 has a little more power
the blaster is cheap light and still has decent power and is more like a mini banshee not raptor
but as far as overall the z400 is probably a better machine in every way and can also be moded
there is also the 2stroke vrs 4stroke depends what you like
but you are comparing 2 pretty differeny machines
hope that helps a bit

Man get the z400. Blaster dont even compare to it. Sure the blaster is cheap and an excellent quad but it just dont campare to the z400. I have 2 friends that ride z's, i ride a 2003 bone stock blaster. I can keep up with them on the trails but once we hit the track or drag, its all over, the z's eat me alive. The z400 is a 398cc four stroke and the blaster ia a 200cc 2 stroke. The dry weight on the z is about 380lbs and the blaster weighs a mere 320lbs. The 2003 z400 is about $5'700 and the 2003 blaster is about $3,200 I dont know what type of riding you plan on doing or how much experience you have but thats something you also want to consider before purchasing an atv. Ive been riding blaster for 2 years and they suite me just fine, great trail riding quad!!

These quads are in very different categories. The blaster is a mid level sport quad with a 2 stroke engine. The z/kfx400 twins are in the hi performance sport quads with 4 stroke engines.
The blaster is a small, lightweight quad. Great for beginners and smaller people. Always fun no matter how experienced you are. It runs $3200 new, but used can be found at half or less. No reverse, air cooled, 6 speeds, some oil injected, new brakes/headlight/plastic for 2003.
The z/kfx twins are somewhat heavier, but have more power. MSRP is 5699, but can be found cheaper at dealerships. Not many are on the used market yet. Reverse, liquid cooled, 4 stroke, 5 speed, a little fast for beginners.
The z/kfx are faster, but the blaster is just about as quick. Only drags and open trails will show severe difference b/w them. If price is a concern, the blaster would proabaly be a better bet. What kind of riding are you planning on doing?
